Up The Ladder To The Roof Lyrics
Come with me
And we shall run across the sky
And illuminate the night
Oh, oh, oh, I will try and guide you
To better times and brighter days
Don't be afraid
Come up the ladder to the roof
Where we can see heaven much better
Come up the ladder to the roof
Where we can be (where we can be) mmm
(Where we can be) closer to heaven
(To heaven, stay)
Stay with me
And we shall let expression
(Sing)
Can't you hear 'em ring
Oh, oh, oh
(Memories of yesterday)
Yesterday's broken dreams
Dont you know they'll all fade away
If you'll come
Up the ladder to the roof
Where we can see heaven much better
Come up the ladder to the roof
Where we can be
(Where we can be)
(Where we can be)
Aahh, closer to heaven
We'll laugh and I'll tell you the story of love
How it is and the happiness in it, baby
We'll combine our thoughts
And together we'll travel the roads to the fountain of loveliness
I will never ever ever leave you leave you alone to wonder
As we go on our love it will grow much stronger and stronger
Don't you wanna go
Up the ladder to the roof
Where we can see heaven much better
Up the ladder to the roof where we can be closer to heaven
Aah
Up the

Ooh, ooh, hoo, hoo

It appears to be a song about lovers finding "heaven" on the rooftop (take that as you will). However, on a much deeper and more sinister level, going up the ladder (typifying the spine, starting at the so-called lower "chakra") to the roof (the upper "chakra") represents the demonic concept of "kundalini awakening" wherein one supposedly becomes awakened, enlightened, or illuminated (hence, "illuminate the night" verse) by having this demonic coiled/serpent energy rise from the sanctum bone to the fontanelle and bursting forth with a fountain of enlightenment (aka advanced stages of demon possession); bringing them 'out of the darkness' and closer to (their deceived conception of) heaven. They will then supposedly be free (typified by running across the sky, which also has astrological ramifications). One says to the other that they "will try and guide" them (false prophets, teachers, or gurus), to lead them to this (false) experience that purports to bring about "better times and brighter days" (which is a lie as is evidenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini_syndrome and on other sites discussing the harmful effects of kundalini demonism). The words "Don't be afraid - Go up the ladder to the roof where we can see heaven much better / be oh closer to heaven" are repeated to distract from these real harms and ills. Also, in this promised (but illusory) state of non-existential bliss, 'all bad memories' (and everything else) is said to "all fade away" so long as you "come up the ladder (spine / chakrahs) to the roof (fontanelle near the highest so-called chakrah, the "little fountain" -which is what fontanelle means -- at the top of one's head... hence the "fountain of loveliness" portion). Consider this Satan's lying promise to all smart enough to see the true meaning but dumb enough to believe the lie.
I once heard, but I can't find it online now, that part of the inspiration for this song was that African Americans often found their gatherings hassled by the police in New York. But they found that if they did rooftop gatherings, they were left alone, the police unaware of the gathering. I just can't seem to find it but I think it was one of the Supremes who said this in an interview. For me, it made this song even a little sweeter.
bsinclair - well written but garbage. It is a simple love song
