Lazarus Lyrics

It's horrid to see you again,
now that you're back from the dead
It's horrid to see you again,
so bored of being you
It's horrid to see you again,
now that you're back from the dead
It's horrid to see you again,

So bored of being alive;
alive, alive

It's horrid to see you again,
acting like you're on some kind of cross
It's horrid to see you again,
an emotional retard
It's horrid to see you again,
unaware that all may not be lost
It's horrid to see you again,

So bored of being alive;
alive alive alive,
alive alive alive

It's horrid to see you again,
walking around with that egg on your face
It's horrid to see you again,
so full of apathy
It's horrid to see you again,
caught in a trap that you cannot escape
It's horrid to see you again,

So bored of being alive;
alive alive alive,
alive alive alive

This song is from the album Meds (2006). From the way that Placebo usually sings about sex and drugs, I think that the Implicit Lazarus Phenomenon is paralleled to Drug Rehabilitation. Sure you're alive again, but you're bored as hell because there are no more trips, no more moments of ecstasy, no bags of golden brown, just life.

I thought it was 'its hard to see you again' instead of horrid. Due to brians tendancy to emphasise certain parts of words..

might be wrong. I agree with twikki. The song does have a lot of christian references, so it makes sense.

I think it's about seeing some again and that you've being living in their shadow that when they do cast that shadow again you can't stand the site of them, and when you do express your feelings that you can't stand them they can't understand why you hate them so much, that you seem to have formed some barrier between you and them, that even though in the past you relished being them it's become boring and unfforfilling at the fact they've come back and still expect you to see them through rose tinted glasses until it comes to a point where you can't even enjoy the thrill of being alive anymore.

I've read some interview with Brian Molko where he mentioned that he used to be a fan of Star Trek.

This song was definetly inspired by the same titled Star Trek episode. The Story: Lazarus is a time traveller and he's being chased by an other lazarus who came from an alternative dimension. They look the same way but one of them has lost his mind and trying to kill the other one. (I do not remember well but I think it's because he can not accept the fact that an other one of him exists.) According to Spock's (a character in Star trek) speech about material and anti material, if these two would get in touch in any of the two dimensions, then space and time would collapse. At the end of the episode the sane Lazarus sacrifices himself: he tells the captain to shoot the time machine while they are both inside it, and the two get stuck between the dimensions -where is no material and time - destined to fight for all eternity. (so they are caught in a trap that they can not escape :) )

I'm sorry if my English is not entirely correct, I'm now learning it.:)

I love this song. To me the song sounds as if its about himself, into a mirror maybe, from the 'so bored of being you' line. I may be wrong but thats how i see it.

I think this song is based on the bible story of lazarus, this song is probably in the point of view of a friend of lazarus

i agree with cousinscampi i think it may be written about himself.

"so bored of being you" perhaps he is sick of being himself, brian molko that guy from placebo. the bisexual androgynous singer.

"acting like you're on some kind of cross" he thinks he thinks so highly of himself because he is in a band

"unaware that all may not be lost" could mean that he is not appreciating where he is and his fans

"walking around with that egg on your face" i think this line is representing the shame he feels from the 'nancy boy' days, how he used to look and act

"caught in a trap that you cannot escape" maybe he finds himself tied down to the band and there is no way of him leaving his way of life

i dont know this is just what i think, its a very sad song but equally beautiful

Also it could have something to do with the 'Lazarus Phenomenon' Which describes when a person somehow returns to life after they had passed away. That could explain the lines 'now that you're back from the dead' and 'So bored of being alive;' maybe the person didnt want to come back to life?

I think maybe it's from the point of view of Lazarus. Because in the actual lyrics of the song Brian never says Lazarus. Possibly talking about Jesus. "Now that your back from the dead" sounds like he might be jealous of jesus. I think the song as a whole might be a metaphor for jealousy and disgust towards a person.

I agree with Bubblegun's description and it is hard not horrid in the lyrics.
