Circles Lyrics
Another day
Another sunrise
Another factory call
Another night
Another sunset
Another freefall
Am I alive?
Am I on purpose?
Within the weakness
Within the weakness
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
Another day
Another lifetime
Another engine stalls
Another line
Another freeway
Another freefall
Am I alive?
Am I on purpose?
Within the weakness
Within the weakness
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
In circles, in circles
I've lost all that I wanted to leave
I've lost all that I wanted to be
Don't believe that there's nothing that's true
Don't believe in this modern machine
The modern machine
In circles
Spinning, spinning
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
In circles, in circles
Another sunrise
Another factory call
Another night
Another sunset
Another freefall
Am I alive?
Am I on purpose?
Within the weakness
Within the weakness
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
Another lifetime
Another engine stalls
Another line
Another freeway
Another freefall
Am I alive?
Am I on purpose?
Within the weakness
Within the weakness
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
In circles, in circles
I've lost all that I wanted to be
Don't believe that there's nothing that's true
Don't believe in this modern machine
The modern machine
In circles
In circles, in circles
Spinning out in circles
In circles, in circles
In circles, in circles

i think this song is blatantly existentialist.. its lamenting how life can feel like spinning in endless circles without answers, "a quiet desperation", where it all feels pointless and monotonous. when you spin in circles, you're not making any progress, you're just in the same place. and then jon urges us not to give up the fight, the search for answers: "don't believe that there's nothing thats true", while also taking a jab at postmodernism (the idea that there's no right or wrong, no true or false, because everything is relative).
i love how the song is repetitive in a trippy way, to symbolize the idea of repeatedly spinning in circles.
These are the clips on the website. I'm changing all these to the full songs when the CD comes out.
Full lyrics will be up tomorrow
great song!! its about the struggle of the common man... another theme switchfoot writes about quite often..
i think that this song is about how we fall into the same circle of sin and forgiveness and then back into sin. also, i think in the beginning it is about doubting god wondering if "Am I alive Am I on purpose" and in the end it is about reaffirming the faith when it says "Don’t believe that there’s nothing that’s true Don’t believe in this modern machine" yet is unavoidable to fall back into the doubt. hence, another circle.
wow, this song is so amazing, especially musically. not saying the lyrics are bad, but the music gives me chills. the music really emphasizes the words. i like your interpretation thatwasimplied. i never thought of it like that. it makes sense. also, the repetition really makes you feel the way the song is trying to make you feel. it's pretty cool. i also love the bridge. amazing!
Precisely what I was thinking, born2xl.

"i love how the song is repetitive in a trippy way, to symbolize the idea of repeatedly spinning in circles." Definitely! Never thought of it that way..
The bridge (=amazing) might well be the best part of the album.
I love "Am I alive, am I on purpose" b/c that is a question that many teenagers are asking as you read this. This song is very deep. I also like "Don’t believe that there’s nothing that’s true Don’t believe in this modern machine"
