When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do we really get to go
When do we really get to go
When do we really get to go
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Maybe then we already are home
Row row row your boat
Gently down the stream
Row row row your boat
Gently down the stream
Gently down the stream now
Gently down the stream
Gently down the stream now
Gently down the stream
Gently down the stream now
Gently down the stream
Gently down the stream
Gently down the stream
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do you really get to go
When do we really get to go
When do we really get to go
When do we really get to go
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
First you must go walking on your own
Maybe then we already are home

I think this song is about finding yourself. You feel something is missing, you're missing a "home", you feel incomplete, so you have to walk the roads of life alone for a while. When it's all said and done though, home was never outside of you, it was always inside. Our real home, our true identity and that thing that completes us is inside. We were already home all along, never left.
The ending really seals it for me though. He starts to sing row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. The stream he's referring to is the stream of life, consciousness, time? One of those or maybe all of those. What he leaves unsaid at the end is the true nature of the song. Life is but a dream. You never left home, home in this case being the universal truth that lies in us all, the universal consciousness, and this life you live is just a dream where you can find your way back home.
That's how I see it anyway, maybe I'm wrong.
This song reminds me so much of The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows." It is rhythmically cyclical and seems to speak to some very profound concepts. I'm a Buddhist, so I see so many paraboles to specifically Buddhist concepts. Like "When do you/we really get to go (home)." We spend so much of our lives searching for ourselves, and a time/place to feel truly at peace. But first "you/we must go walking on your/our own" to discover this completely personal truth/no one else can tell you what your own home, or truth, is, you have to find that out yourself. Once we've done that, we stop searching in external places/concepts, we start to realize there is no other place than here and our own experience (it is not out there somewhere, it is all right here, in us, in this present moment), hence "Maybe then we already are home." Once we realize this, we can be at peace just with how things are and "Row row row your/our boat(s) gently down the stream," with no contest. We can go on with our lives lightheartedly and with a sense of flow. It is no longer a situation of fighting upstream.
All of Alexi's songs on "Time without Consequence" are tremendously moving to me. Sometimes, I just listen to this album and bawl. I tend to be a very logical person, so this album is such an aid in bringing down those logical walls to help me get in touch with my emotional side. Honestly, it feeds my soul. <3
I think this song is about indepeendence... kind of finding your own way, making your own path.
