Castle Down Lyrics
You can see that I swim
Through the sea of painful
You have watched as I pull
Myself from the floor
And you were there when I
Built my tower like pebbles in the rain
Trying to balance all that I had left
With what I didn't have anymore
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
You seem so devoted
Your love is unconditional
You were self-promoted
I never asked you
You were my everything
My apparitional faith
Where are you when I am screaming to my God
What am I coming to
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
If I had another place to go
Would you break me, is it that you know
I have no choice but to rebuild again
I'm tied so hard I can't remember when
I last walked free upon these feet of mine
But I'll draw the line
There will come a time
When I am stronger
Your words won't hurt any longer
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone
And let the wind run through my windows
'Til there was nothing left but a battered rose
And would you tear my castle down
Stone by stone

'Til there is nothing nothing left

It sounds like it's about an abusive relationship. I love the emotion in her voice when she sings this.
To me this is telling the story of a girl who was in a relationship that was falling apart, and she was doing all that she could to keep it together. It finally ended and diminished, and the man is spiteful. She is telling him "You'd love to see me fall, would you not?" and remaining strong. Telling him that she will survive.
it sounds like a girl who was verbally/emotionally abused. or was in a relationship with a very possessive guy.
I very much agree with Ladylunacy, that the song is a plea to God, asking why he didn't help when she needed her. However, Castle Down was originally released on the album By The Sword, which was Emilie's musical tribute to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I think that this song isn't meant to represent the loss from the point of view of only one person, but a plea from the entire country, asking why God allowed this to happen (I'm not saying God made it happen, not at all, I'm just saying that's my view on the song)
It's like a brilliant metaphor, I'm listening to it now, just the piano is so haunting and they ghostlike wind in the background; wow. Just a perfectly put together song and the violin in it is so pure. The lyrics are perfect, I just love this song, a metaphor for something serious but still emotional <3
To me, this is about a girl, who felt so alone, so she "built a castle" so no one could see it, and shes challenging people who claim to love to knock it down, and see how alone she feels..
I like the wind rushing through seems cleansing
I think it's about a girl who relied on a guy while having a rough time and when everything was better he left her and she was back at where it started. Therefore; "I have no choise but to rebuild again".
I love this song and I'm singing it for my Chorus concert. Does anyone know the piano chords or know where I can find them?
I heard it had something to do with emotional struggles after rape, I think Emilie might have said something about this.
