After the Bombs Lyrics
After the bombs subside
And this long, low campaign
Calls it good for the night
We meet in the streets
Will we meet in a bar’s cold light?
We grip at our hands
We hold just a little tight
After the bombs
After the bombs subside
And after the rockets come
And the glimmer of fire
Portends an early dawn
We pinch at our skin
While we wonder how we escaped harm
We forget all our trials
All there in our baby’s arms
After the rockets
After the rockets come
Then we’ll go dancing
Won’t we go dancing?
Yes, we’ll go dancing
Until it all starts over again
Then we’ll go dancing
Yes, we’ll go dancing
Won’t we go dancing?
Until it all starts over again
And this long, low campaign
Calls it good for the night
We meet in the streets
Will we meet in a bar’s cold light?
We grip at our hands
We hold just a little tight
After the bombs subside
And the glimmer of fire
Portends an early dawn
We pinch at our skin
While we wonder how we escaped harm
We forget all our trials
All there in our baby’s arms
After the rockets come
Won’t we go dancing?
Yes, we’ll go dancing
Until it all starts over again
Yes, we’ll go dancing
Won’t we go dancing?
Until it all starts over again

I believe the lyric is, "We pinch at our skin while we wonder how we escaped harm"
this songs so beautiful, why wasn't it on the album! ...proceeds to pout
wow Ive never heard this before, the lyrics are great, they should put it on their albums!!
After the war, they danced.
This song is beautiful, I love the orgaaaannnn, Jen!
ever since i first heard this song (which can be found as a sort 'o secret song on the crane wife btw) ....i've been obsessed w/ it...to describe it in one word is impossible, but it's certainly poignant and soulful and just amazing in every way
I believe the lyric is "after the rockets calm "
I listened to it quite a few times and I think thats what it is. Could be wrong though
just a note: on iTunes it shows up as a normal track.
I also love the bit about "Then we'll go dancing..." it's so... like appreciating something even though in a lot of ways it's a terrible situation. And being able to live in the little moments of life with someone, and be happy.
A touching ballad of love found in dire conditions; a flower that blooms in the fires of war, tempered by trials, and finally let to flourish after the war machine finally dies.
After the bombs, the lovers enjoy a momentary reprieve to share a dance in the early dawn, forgetting their hardships, if at least until the bombs begin all over again.
I cannot listen to this song without being overwhelmed, especially thinking about the love of my own life. That Hammond organ is just plucks at all the right heartstrings.
I have realized that it is near impossible for me to listen to this song without crying, or at least wanting to cry. Honestly one of the most beautiful things ever written.
I heard them perform this song in Boston last year, but I just got the mp3, and oh my gosh I forgot about how incredible it is. It seems more California One than Crane Wife to me, and I love it. I think the people above me have pretty much got the meaning.
