Falling Inside the Black Lyrics
Tonight I'm so alone
This sorrow takes ahold
Don't leave me here so cold
Never want to be so cold
Your touch used to be so kind
Your touch used to give me life
I've waited all this time
I've wasted so much time
Don't leave me alone
'Cause I barely see at all
Don't leave me alone
I'm...
Falling in the black, slipping through the cracks
Falling to the depths, can I ever go back?
Dreaming of the way it used to be, can you hear me?
Falling in the black, slipping through the cracks
Falling to the depths, can I ever go back?
Falling inside the black
Falling inside, falling inside
The black
You were my source of strength
I've traded everything
That I love for this one thing
Stranded in the offering
Don't leave me here like this
Can't hear me scream from the abyss
And now I wish for you, my desire
Don't leave me alone
'Cause I barely see at all
Don't leave me alone
I'm...
Falling in the black, slipping through the cracks
Falling through the depths, can I ever go back?
Dreaming of the way it used to be, can you hear me?

Honestly, people...we all have our own opinions, don't bash on the opinions of others. And this song has quite a few spiritual allusions. Naturally, the abyss...which is not hell, by the way. And the biggest one being BLACK, in and of itself. Black is always associated with sin, y'know in the Sunday School songs from days of yore? And I quote, "My heart was black w/ sin, until the savior came in" etc. From my point of view, "I traded everything I love for this one thing" is an allusion to The Pearl of Great Price, a parable in which a pearl is used to metaphorically describe God. A merchant recognizes the pearl as being of great value, and so he sells everything he owns in order to buy the pearl, and when he gets it, he is the happiest man you ever did see.
Anyway, this song is how I believe a lot of Christians feel. We can't see God, and sometimes can't feel him. We feel as if he's left or abandoned us and all we see around us is a cold, black night. We feel as if we're falling into a neverending abyss. It's scary. This song is our doubts and fears, and honestly it isn't just Christians that feel this way. No one can ever KNOW for absolutely sure. Everyone has faith in something, be it God, science, the cosmic consciousness, or aliens bent on destroying planet earth...and for each and every person, there are times when we feel like it's all wrong, and we wonder if we're really believing in the right thing. This song doesn't tell us the answer...that's up to us to figure out. We can keep falling or reach out and grab a lifeline. And we all slip every once in awhile and fall again, only to have our beliefs either dashed or renewed. We're all falling.
THANK YOU! I get so tired of people bashing others or bringing others down just because we don't all think the same and for having different opinions; if you don't agree with someone kindly address your own thoughts, or, better yet, just ignore it.

I love everytihng about this song, especially the chorus since it's so relatable. It's hard to believe these guys are really christian rock since their music is pretty loud(just how I like it) and the lyrics can have many different meaning behind it.
this song's great. it's about not wanting to fall into the lies and hate of this world. hoping God has a way to help out.
agreed with UrbanElegance.
and no, it isnt emo. gosh.
omg, i love this song. This is prolly my fave song from Skillet, and that's really hard to say. This is a great song, with lots of meaning.
What I like about their music is that they're Christian rock, but a lot of it can also be interpreted in a non-Christian way. This could be about wanting a friend to stay with him through a hard time, to help him get through it.
psh how could it not be about God if its done by a Christian band? And how does them being Christian suck? honestly God is the best thing that has ever, and will ever, happen to me.
Just because it's a Christian band, doesn't mean it's definitely about Christianity. Look at those "Those Nights" it really doesn't have to do anything with Christianity.

well God is life so that kinda disproves your point masashin. But I'm not here to debate, here to analyze.
Everyone already said the answer. It's just about being so far away from God that it scares you. And you're wondering if he can hear you and could you ever go back.
Love the song, it's so relatable especially now in my life. Double kudos to skillet
You know it's funny how some people can get so offended by a song that is or can be religious. But yet somehow, if someone starts singing about raping woman, getting high, or shooting the "pigs" well gee that's just good music, right? It's even funnier when a lot of those same people actually disapprove of those things I wrote. Yeah, I know, there's a bunch of religious folk who do the same thing with mainstream music but even if you think they're wrong to do so with mainstream music it doesn't mean that you're right to do the same with religious music.
well i know skillet is a christan band but still all their songs have the feel : boy loses girl
