Avalyn I Lyrics

Silence grows
My feelings flow
I'm dreaming now
Of all the things I know
I'm here on my own

I also believe this is about dreams, the kind of dreams where you realize you're dreaming and you can manipulate everything with your mind and desire. I get the same cloudy astrally feeling everytime i listen to it, it takes me to the place where i'm all by myself and where reality laws don't work the same way. Without any kind of drugs :D.

@xERa HOW do you do this? My dreams always end up going wrong. If only i could manipulate them.

Maybe you can do so in life as well as dreams?

@xERa You can do it in lucid dreams, the kind where you know you're dreaming. It takes practice and patience to be able to lucidly dream to the point of being able to control what happens in the dream. There are free articles and videos about lucid dreaming on the internet if you're interested in it.

easily one of the most mesmerizing, captivating and beautiful songs ive ever heard in my life. the instrumental version, Avalyn II is twice as long.

i found this when searching exactly what AVALYN meant:

i think its about dreams, not the hope, but the actual place where dreams take place... and nightmares for that matter. the entire mood of the piece gives off an aura of being higher or levitating, as though you could close your eyes and open them on some astral plane surrounded by clouds in the sky.

lovely song. though i like the instrumental more, it doesnt detract much from this version.

Beautiful song. It gives out such an ambiance, it's really one of those songs I specially like to hear while waking up in the morning. It's relaxing, and also melancholic to a certain extent; a cry of hope and despair mixed with a celestial background. A masterpiece ^^

in my top 5 favorite slowdive songs. it gives me the chills every time i listen to it. the lyrics are incredible, i agree that the song is about dreaming. specifically the mystery of the unconscious mind. the line "I'm here on my own" is haunting. there may be people in your dream but ultimately, they are just illusions, memories, and imaginations you have of them.

It's about death, about that moment you see your life in it's totality ("dreaming now of all the things I know"). See the Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot for the references.

I always found this rather haunting when i got the vinyl. Because of that, I would avoid playing this as well as Morning Rise.

"Now i'm all grown up" and no longer afraid of whatever it was haunting me. There are socially accepted demons here on earth which are far scarier than a slightly eerie Slowdive song.

So now i can relax and listen properly without worrying about things coming at me behind gravestones etc and it's beautiful. Sublime. Melancholic Hopefulness. Hopeless Euphoria.

Or.....i know....Post Rave Comedown as one journo called them.

It makes me chuckle how "cool" it is to like Slowdive now. I had people laugh at me for suggesting these were amazing back in the day. I was almost kicked out of university for refusing to wear a "Carter USM" t-shirt. In the end a compromise was reached in that i wore a "Godfodder" (Neds) t-shirt as long as i never had to wear a Carter t-shirt.

Whatever next? Stereolab on radio one?

BTW....I wish everybody would stop claiming that there was a "shoegaze" scene in 1991. Shoegazing was a derogatory comment from a music journo. It wasn't like Slowdive and Ride bumped into each other in the pub and said "Hey....why don't we call our music, shoegaze". Then Chapterhouse phoned up and asked if they could be shoegaze too.

Oh....On the very slim chance that she is reading....Hi Rachel

I too believe this is about dreams, not only the ones in sleep mode but also day dreams. When I listen to this song and the longer instrumental one, I go to places in my big imagination.

On a side note: does anyone know what the name Avalyn means?
