From a Smartpunk interview with HiL (9.20.06):

Q: Although this has been asked many times...are you guys a christian band?

A: Schuyler: This has been asked every interview. It's alright though. We are not a christian band.

A: Steve: I would say that about a third of my drum beats are christian drum beats.

A: Schuyler: I think most of the riffs on the record are christian riffs.

Steve: I have that one jewish fill that I'm pretty proud of.

That Song is just awesome! I love it!

I Think its about love... About someone who fells in love in a girl [for example :D]. He fells in love at the first moment he sees her but she don't take him for real and kisses him "just for fun" but he thinks its serious. The poison is in my esample the love she injected him. But at least he never saw her again...

Coming from the angle that He Is Legend is a christian band, I think this song is being infected by sin. When it says "i saw you comin out the corner of my eye" it means he knew whatever he was doing was worng, but he did it anyway. The chorus is Schulyar asking God to get the sin out of his life. The pre-chorus ("Where are you now?", etc.) Is Croom asking whereGod is and why he allowed this sin to enter his life.

Actually He Is Legend isn't "christian," which is a terrible qualifier for music at any rate. They are signed to a label that has predominately christian oriented bands.

That given, both are good theories. I'm leaning towards the girl one however.

If you read earlier interviews, they used to be one of those "evangelical" sorts of bands, some/most of the members are Christian. They don't do the preaching anymore, and from what I understand, most of the songs comes from poetry and stories Schuylar writes.

I read an article right around the time the album came out that referred to the name of the album. Schuylar said that "Suck out the Poison" meant to filter out all of the fake fans by changing He Is Legend's sound completely, which is largely why this album sounds drastically different from "I Am Hollywood." I wish I could still find the link to that interview but I can't. Anyways, hope that helps some people out.
