China White Lyrics
It's getting late
I'm coming home
I picked this rose for you
I've been away search for oceans
With time to kill
You better buy a gun
Because I've seen them watching you
The old man and his son
They have been studying your moves
Why won't it rain
They need the water
They'll die faster than you
I'm not in pain
I've got my flowers
Its happening
You better get your gun
I see them watching you
This pain has just begun
"You will see me in the news"
I know you will
"And I don't understand why I sleep all day, and I start to complain
when there's no rain
I don't believer in miracles but I believe in you
Now I can't wait until I can sleep in late
Maybe I'll miss you then
With no garden to tend
I am your gardener!?! Oh no (what have I done)
Ok, so this goes for all three of the china white trilogy. It is about a man who is in depressive state and his sanity is his "garden" and the only way to keep him sane is this girl but she is young and her parents wont let them be together. This makes him in a deep depression and then the part where he says "I dont believe in miracles" he is about to commit suicide then he wakes up and turns his anger turns to rage Then the I am your gardener part is his rage taking over him. He finally kills the girls his parents. Then it leads to china white 2. The first lyrics is girl singing scared the gardener will kill him. Then the distorted vocals is the man talking to her frustrated and full of rage. Then when he says "when you wake you'll be beautiful again" he kills the girl. Leading into China White 3. This song is mainly about the man talking to the dead girl in denial and realization of what he just did. When he says "wont you please grow for me" is him talking to his conscious to grow back his sanity and get out of this depression. Finally in the end he says he has no garden to tend. Meaning he has no mind to live with. He then commits suicide.
It is a very deep interpretation but it makes so much sense when you think about it. A brilliant song
Man I love he is legend, but I have absolutely no clue what idea(s) he tries to convey in song... oh yea they kick ass live :D
Did anyone make the obvious drug reference? China white means heroin, I think it's about a guy growing opium poppies for heroin, implying other people are planning to steal his drugs or cops are after him. And I believe in you in this case would mean that he believes in the plants, also explains the lines about rain. You will see me in the news could mean he gets arrested.

think about it, it's not much of a stretch.

Indeed effigy, that would be the logical conclusion from knowing these lyrics. But you should also look at the lyrics for China White II...the "old man" kills the father of a child, and then enslaves the mother, telling the daughter that she is the next to die. Several lines in that song point to him using their remains as fertilizer for his "flowers". Maybe this is a little bit of a logical leap, but could the guy be addicted to killing? If the "flowers" are heroin, and he gets his "flowers" by slaughter and enslavement, then this guy is one...

I think the story of China White and China White II is that this little girl's mother dies, and the father uses her remains to fertilize his garden. In China White, he's warning himself that he might harm his daughter (referenced in China White II), and so he's basically asking himself to commit suicide in order to both prevent her death as well as any harsher judgment from "the old man and his son", which I believe to be God and Jesus. I think, though, at the end of China White, he's already killed the daughter and is now going...

I think, though, at the end of China White, he's already killed the daughter and is now going to use her to help his garden grow as well... I think he kills the daughter because the loss of his wife (her mother) is extremely painful for him, and like it it stated in China White II, she looks like both of them so her physical appearance is a constant reminder that he just can't handle. I think China White and China White II convey two conflicting pieces of his personality, and while both of them occur at the same time, the personality of China White succumbs to that expressed in China White II... it's a little confusing but EXTREMELY clever, one of the most brilliant ideas I've ever attempted to dissect.
I think it relates to real life in the sense that it is a metaphor for someone being unable to cope with a loss, therefore they feel the need to destroy every reminder of said loss so that they can "sleep at night"... so by destroying all these memories, they have made the situation "beautiful again", because just as the flowers grow at the gardener's feet, this person feels as though they have regained the power in this situation -- they are no longer vulnerable to this loss.
I love both of the China White songs, and I feel a strong connection to them...
The China White songs are about a gardener that becomes obsessed with a family and kills them.

and buries them in there garden
and buries them in there garden
This song is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!! like all the "i am hollywood" cd!!!
"i don't believ in miracles but i believ in you"..... how beautiful!! and then the part "now i can't wait..." is seriously amazing!!!!!!!!
Im not exactly sure on the meaning of this song, but I just thought i'd ad in that since reading the lyrics, this song was ruined a little for me. I had orignally thought that the end said
"Maybe I'll miss you then With your carnage and sin.
I am your guardian"
You have no idea how many times I screamed those lines in my car...ah well
I think that this song is about him having a bad relationship or him losing someone close to him. Not with a girl but just with someone in his life. I think the person who he lost really had a green thumb.
to add to what I already said the part where he says "and I don't understand why I sleep in late and start to complain when there is no rain." is taken from No Rain by Blind Melon
this song is about him being a gardener who is getting jelous of family members? and kills them of course he gets caught and goes to jail: Now I can't wait until I can sleep in late Maybe I'll miss you then With no garden to tend
i dont have an idea for the whole song, but some parts i think are about god. for instance:
You better buy a gun Because I've seen them watching you The old man and his son They have been studying your moves
I think the "old man" is god, the "son" being jesus. the "i dont believe in miracles, but i believe in you" part sort of has a god-y theme to it as well. as for the rest of the song, your guess is as good as mine.
I agree with this. He Is Legend used to be a Christian band back in the day. "I dont believe in miracles, but I believe in You" is easily a reference to God. but i dont under stand the whole "You better buy a gun Because I've seen them watching you The old man and his son" part because if God and Jesus were watching me I wouldnt need a gun.

because it isn't about Jesus or God.
