If you would have asked me 7 months ago , I would've agreed with that interpretation. But after I lost my love and best friend, I found that this song had much deeper meaning. In fact I listened to it several times a day to help say what I was feeling. I think overall, he's asking if I mess up here, in this life--do something stupid or something shameful,("if I stumble/fall") Will you still wait for me in the next life.
He also talks about dreaming about the sea and waking up feeling blue, cause he wishes he could dream of "you". You want to stay connected, even talk to the one you've lost. When you dream of that person, it's bittersweet, but you're gald you saw them again. And when you don't dream about them its upsetting...it definitely makes you blue.

just like all of alexi's songs, this is both extremely calming and reassuring

for me i think that this is about his head being neither here nor there or more to the point, in both places simultaneously - hes 'on the verge of some great trail' yet he 'can hardly leave [his] room' ..and although not asking for help ..for directions out of this dilemma, hes simply asking for reassurance that the people (or girl?) will still be by him after everthing blows over

..but thats just my interpretation, its probably wrong

Seems like an alcohol abuser's perspective... perhaps losing a person he loves because his addiction.

"Though I have the strength to move a hill I can hardly leave my room" -- the power of intoxication against the side effects

"While my mind is on the moon" -- another reference to his lack of faculties while being drunk

"And If I stumble, and if I stall And if I slip now, and if I should fall And if I can�t be, all that I could be Will you? Will you wait for me?" -- if i relapse, if i fall back into my drinking habits, will you help me through it, will you be there at the end of it all?

"Cause everywhere I seem to be I am only passing through" -- being in a drunken stupor

"I always wake up feeling blue" -- hangover

i think that this song is very special in more than one way. will you wait for me? when i listen this words i translate to: do you really love me? if i stumble, if i fall, if i can't be all that i could be? will you love me anyway? will you be next to me if i fall? if you will, you love me. i am from argentina, and i understand english, but the meaning in each languague could be different.

I love each of Alexi's songs....so much!

The part where he;s inging th "wait for me" again and again, I can feel so much emotion on it...it's like he is crying while he is singing those lines.

Whenever I listen to that part, I feel like I was telling it to someone who is now far from me, and sometimes like someone is going to left me, and I'm telling please wait for me and don't leve me here all "alone".

--apdm, i really think you're right about this one. The strength to move a hill refers to a maddening energy burning inside of him from something taring at him, perhaps someone who has left him or died. He lets the energy burn inside of him because he can't bare to go out, he's waiting for some sign (listening for a tune)and thinking about something higher up (the moon=potential girl).

That's the beauty of music I think, so many ways to interpret the song just by your experiences in life!!! Good song.

My take on the song is that there is someone he loves deeply, but at this point in his life, he is not ready to be with her. He is on the cusp of greatness and he can feel it, but he is not there yet, and he feels he is not yet worthy of being with this person. So he asks her to wait until he gets his bearings and becomes the man that he believes he can become.

All in all, such a great song.

Well to me this song sounds like me when I get insecure in a relationship. Maybe this is just me being a teenager but this is how it strikes me:

I feel like the opening the "great truth" is that he loves this person(i'm going to say girl because it'll just flow better and such.) And his place is being with her. Though he is insecure about the relationship and that could be cluttering space in his mind and casting a shadow on his face.

He has the strength to move hills could be all his potential energy but he isn't using it because he is just staying in his room all the time just being depressed and insecure. Just sitting there until that right song comes on and his mind is just elsewhere. (kinda connecting with this part, sort of how I found this song.)

And the chorus: He could be referring to these bits of insecurity as these slips and stumbles and everything. They are slips in character and trusting her and just being happy. And when he is asking her to wait for him he is referring to waiting for his insecurities to pass and to wait for him to be okay and trust her kind of stuff.

He feels he is just passing through places because all he can think about is his doubts and insecurities. He could be dreaming of things just being good and he wakes up just feeling bad that things aren't good and just wants to dream of them being good.

Kind of my idea on the song. Might not be too uplifting but it's what I got from the song.
