To Go Home Lyrics
hoping my mind don't slip
sailing on a sinking ship
into the sunset in day
dark night on a long highway
little lights in the houses say
there's somebody staying up late
whoa-oh
I'll be true to you
oh yeah, you know I will
I'll be true to you forever or until
I go home
God, it's great to be alive
takes the skin right off my hide
to think I'll have to give it all up someday
and if I ever treated you mean
you know that it was only because
I'm sorry i couldn't have you for my own
whoa-oh
I'll be true to you
oh yeah, you know I will
I'll be true to you forever or until
I go home
I go home
I, I, I, I go home
I, I, I, I go home
I, I, I, I go home
sailing on a sinking ship
into the sunset in day
dark night on a long highway
little lights in the houses say
there's somebody staying up late
whoa-oh
oh yeah, you know I will
I'll be true to you forever or until
I go home
takes the skin right off my hide
to think I'll have to give it all up someday
you know that it was only because
I'm sorry i couldn't have you for my own
whoa-oh
oh yeah, you know I will
I'll be true to you forever or until
I go home
I go home
I, I, I, I go home
I, I, I, I go home
I, I, I, I go home

A song about life and love and getting old and death and the other side.... etc.
Great cover of a Daniel Johnston song!
I love the composition~~~!
The lyrics, I can't quite make out, though. Must just be a proclomation of love, eh?
I like the original better but M. Ward's version is amazing too.
There are a few mistakes in the lyrics I think..
hoping my mind don't slip = hope it be my mind don't slip
into the sunset in day = into the sunset in bed
I'm probably wrong, but I always thought it was, "Openly my mind knows slim, sailing on a sinking ship into the sunset, in death."

this song always cheers me up, i've never heard daniel johnstons version i'll have to check it out
I think the line might be "into the sunset in death," rather than "in bed." It would make more sense with the theme of the song.
first time in that line is 'into the sunset and back', then the second time it's 'into the sunset in death'.. at least that's the case in Johnston's version.
I am surprised to find that M Ward did not write this song but I love it. I first heard it when school was starting and I just got a car and I used to drive around with girls or with friends at night and this song always made me feel elated to be in the now
