La la la la la la

Well she said I know but I just can't tell
Everything you've just been saying
Lucy was there as well in the dark
When the kids in the band were playing

No-one can hear a word I tell
What the girl was singing
See she must have been 16 or 18
I'm just past caring

She was into the Stones when
I was into the Roses
She was breaking my bones when
I was bursting their noses
She would tell me a secret
I would lose it the next day
You're not pleased that you're easy
Makes you sick in a bad way

And all the while the girls sang
La la la la and she sang
Kickings for my sweetheart
Bruises that I just don't miss

And she said "I can't love you anymore than this!"

La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la

Aw she said she said oh no no no no
Let me yes why don't you kill me
I said when I'm messed up like this
Sweetheart you know that don't thrill me
Said I would've been there if only I had been a little bit nicer
I was dead by Sunday half dead scared just trying to please her

She getting the pills when
I was into her best friend
She was chasing the thrills
And living down at the West End
She was pretty in braces
I lived out of her window
She said "take me to London"
Tell me something I don't know

And all the while the girls sang
La la la la she sang
Kickings for my sweetheart
Bruises that I just don't miss

And she said "I can't love you anymore than this!"

La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la

She was into the Stones when
I was into the Roses
She was breaking my bones when
I was bursting their noses
She would tell me a secret
I would lose it the next day
You're not pleased that you're easy
Makes you sick in a bad way
And all the while the girls sang
La la la la she sang
Kickings for my sweetheart
Bruises that I just don't miss

And she said "I don't like you
You can't stand me
I can't love you anymore than this"

Disclaimer :I break this song down line by line so its a bit to read.

Idk I think this songs about the hottest guy in school liking this super weird girl who abused him. And when ever he tried to swoon her by she would make fun of him or something. Like when it says, "she was into the stones when I was into the roses" he was saying that her way of saying I love you was to beat him up and break him down while his way was being kind and gentle.

"She was breaking my bones when I was busting their noses" I see that she was the only girl to belittle him and make him work for it while every other girl was constantly gushing over him.

"I know but I just can't tell everything that you've just been saying" shes telling him she understands that he likes her but she can't understand why.

"Lucy was there as well in the dark when the kids in the band were playing. " I believe that Lucy Is the best friend mentioned later in the song "she was giving me pills when I was into her best friend. " and he was playing his band but couldn't really see who was in the audience. The girl the song is about would constantly play dirty tricks on him and try to persuade him to do things he normally wouldn't do as referring to "giving me pills"

"No one can hear a word I tell, what the girl was singing, she must have been 16 or 18 im just past caring. " I think this means he went to talk to Lucy and met "the girl" through her. he was trying to tell her something but he couldn't be heard over people and the girl didnt notice because she was singing. Since he had just met the girl he evoluted she was around his age but didnt care to push to deep into it.

"She would tell me a secret, I would lose it the next day." Implies pretty much what it says. She would tell him something and the next day he would go out and tell somebody.

" your not pleased that your easy, makes you sick in a bad way. " I think this connects with him spilling secrets and they're constantly fighting and when he gets mad she says " your not pleased that your easy! " meaning that anyone could ask him the secret and h would just tell them. And it mad her sick.

"And all the while the girls sang lalala she sang kicking for my sweetheart, bruises that I just dont miss. and she said i cant love you anymore than this" while every girl would try to impress him by being very feminine an pretty, the girl would just beat him and tell him it was love. And this song is just a recount of his affair with her so hes saying he doesnt miss that side of her. "I cant love you anymore than this. " tells me they were never in an actually relationship, she just lead him on so she could use and abuse him, but wouldn't let it go further than.

"And she said oh no oh no oh no, then again yes, why dont you kill me?" I think thats when he finally has enough and tells her "what if I did that to you?! " and she at first considers her ways as being brutal but then challenges by saying "so you wanna kill me then? Go ahead. " "I said when I'm messed up like this Sweetheart you know that don't thrill me" He actually considers it for a moment than realizes it just her trying to get into his head and tells her "you know thats not what I mean. " which ties into, "Said I wouldn't have been there if only you had been a little bit nicer" he tells her "i wouldn't be having those thoughg if you would only just let up on me and stop being so cruel. "

"I was dead by Sunday half dead scared just trying to please her" hes saying that its almost impossible to keep up with her and her thrills and wondered and would actually kill him, but she was still worth pursuing.

"She was chasing the thrills And living down at the West End" The girl lived a wild life and would constantly spend most of her time at im guessing would be the busy, party side of town.

"She was pretty in braces" to me goes both ways. She was pretty in braces as in castes for broken bones, which could mine he thought she looked pretty when she was in pain and or could not physically hurt him. Or braces for teeth, which would mean even though she was a devil her goofy brace smile made her beautiful.

"I lived under her window" I think means that he was there for her every command and was very loyal to her.

"She said take me to London, tell me something I dont know. " this could mean possibly that she had been bothering him constantly to take her to London and he was annoyed by her always saying that. Or it could mean that she was saying that when his band played big shows in London to take her with him and he would say that she was stating the obvious.

Finally "And she said "I don't like you You can't stop me I can't love you anymore than this" I believe shes saying that since the relationship isn't official, its not abuse, and that he wouldn't stop her because he liked her but she wont stop hurting him because thats how she showed her love by acting like she didnt like him.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
