Shitty Future Lyrics
give me inner tension baby, so sweet and slow.
half hearted misdirection, baby where will we go?
slit wrists are the latest fashion, and your sheets see the dirtiest action.
we're independent mammas. broke kids and loveless gutters.
we need a little sunshine baby, we couldn't get much weaker.
with neon lights for brains, here comes our shitty future.
oh yeah i love those neon lights. here comes our shitty future!
slit wrists are the latest fashion, your sheets see the dirtiest action.
we're independent mammas. broke kids and loveless gutters

we're independent mammas. broke kids and loveless gutters
here comes your shitty future,
one more time your shitty future.
YEAH!
slit wrists the latest fashion, your sheets see the dirtiest action.
we're independent mammas. broke kids and loveless gutters

this song is addicting.
i seem to be currently obsessed with this song..mysterious.hmm, a meaning, a meaning..
it could possibly be about being young and easily influenced by media bullshit etc..i don't think i want to do a line-by-line breakdown. tis maybe about just being/acting like something/someone or a certain kind of person because it is in fashion at the time. currently this seems to be happening on a sickening scale with the whole "emo" thing.people have have taken the sudden "emo" trend too seriously and trends should never be taken that seriously because they are there to give people a variety of things to choose from and create an individual style. but if people try to make themselves "emo" thay are also buying a way of thinking and acting which i think is just going too far!!! i shall spare you and stop blabbing, itmay not be much help as to the meaning but there you go. xXx
Agreed. That's what I got out of it too, following a stupid trend too far and it's saying that nobody ever got anywhere following the crowd or stupid trends so if you're going to do that then prepare for a shitty future.
in an interview they said it's about being told, when you're young, how great the future will be and getting there and it being shitty. "we're all living in the shitty future". still like my first comment though, a song means whatever you want it to mean.

this song is basically about the current state of youth culture being driven by the corporate media, and the anger our generation feels towards the last for exploiting us.
as matt caughtran (the vocalist) says, this song is about realizing what you were promised when you were young was all bullshit. these days, kids buy into trends thinking it will give them an identity while in fact it strips them of one. ("slit wrists are the latest fashion"). it is corporate sponsored rebellion.
however as a counterpoint to this, the song recognizes the kids who really are troubled youth and disillusioned with the media. this is what is meant by the line "your sheets see the dirtiest action, we're independent mammas, broke kids and loveless gutters".
it's this contrast that makes the song what it is. it shows the gap between what the media shows as youth culture, and the reality of the situation. it's about not accepting the image that the media is trying to shove down your throat every day. don't be what they want you to be. don't buy into their lies. you won't be famous or pretty. here comes YOUR shitty future.
I'd be lying to you if I said when I saw them live, that as soon as Matt screamed "Here comes your shitty future. One more time, your shitty future." no one in the crowd got goosebumps. Everyone went wild.
i hear 'with neon lights for veins' just sayin'
