War Pigs (Alternate) Lyrics
Witches gather at black masses
Bodies burning in red ashes
On the hill a church in ruin
Is the scene of evil doings
It's a place for all black sinners
Watch them eating dead rat's innards
I guess it's the same, wherever you may go
Oh lord yeah
Carrying banners which denounce the lord
See me rocking in my grave
See them anoit my head with their black blood
See them stick the stake through me
Oh
Don't hold me back 'cause I just gotta go
Satan's got ahold of my soul now
Look in my brain and there was blood and seed
Look in my eyes and there I go
Yeah
On the scene a priest appears
Sinners falling at his knees
Satan sends out funeral pyres
Casts the priest into the fire
It's a place for all bad sinners
Watch them eating dead rat's innards
I guess it's the same, wherever you may go
Oh lord yeah
Bodies burning in red ashes
On the hill a church in ruin
Is the scene of evil doings
It's a place for all black sinners
Watch them eating dead rat's innards
I guess it's the same, wherever you may go
Oh lord yeah
See me rocking in my grave
See them anoit my head with their black blood
See them stick the stake through me
Oh

Oh lord yeah

This song is from Ozzy's Basement Tapes (1970), or it can be found on The Ozzman Cometh. This is just, really, a more Satanic version of War Pigs. Instead of talking about war and government, he's talking about Satan, Hell, and the corruption of religion ("Carrying banners which denounce the lord..." "On the hill a church in ruin..." "Casts the priest into the fire") That's what I think. I'm not saying Black Sabbath are devil worshipers or anything, it's just this song is kind of Satanic sounding.
This is my favorite War Pigs version :]
It's the same tune and similar lyrics, but this is NOT CALLED "WAR PIGS". This is "Walpurgis" and can only be found on The Ozzman Cometh.
True, Iduke88. This version was also preformed live in Paris in 1970, one of Sabbath's best concerts. As with the alternate version of "Black Sabbath," it's darker lyrically. I remember hearing on Uranium that Ozzy claimed to have been "stoned" during this recording of the song, which may explain the hint of evil/satanism in the lyrics. Also, any "die-hard" Sabbath fan should know that Geezer Butler is responsible for the Satanism element of Black Sabbath.
Wow ElectricFuneral91. You couldn't be any more wrong. This song is about a Satanist, yes but it tells about how horrible it is to be one and how he was ultimately sacrificed by a bunch of horrible people. The Satanic element of Sabbath was merely from people (mainly Christians) mishearing the lyrics and taking them as a Satanistic thing when in fact none ever were.

thank you, while they all may not be "devil worshippers", geezer butler was into black stuff, like spells, aliester crowely, and oh yea, satanism.
