Jetstream Lyrics

This is a free seat
Which way you heading?
You keep pushing
And you keep pushing
Between the wheel crack and the moonbeams
'Coz it goes from where we're heading

The gleaming teeth of the imagery
I can hear some people laughing
This is a stitch-up
I'm not willing
So I'm turning you off when I'm counting

I regret
I turn the clock back
To where I wasn't taken in
I jump out of the window
And get lost in the jetstream

This is a ghost coach
And we're arriving
Down to canyon spirit
Between the wheel crack and the moonbeams
I can hear some people laughing

We need a rubber, man
We need a stretcher, man
I'm not sure I will make it

You are a fool
And this is over
Over the cliffs of Dover

I regret
I turn the clock back
To where I wasn't taken in
I jump out of the window
And get lost in the jetstream

You're beautiful
Until I get close
You have the eyes of a mountain goat
A cold religion
A bad smell
And a strap broke in my hand

And I wanna turn back
I wanna turn back
Turn back
I wanna turn back
I wanna turn back
Turn back
Turn back
I wanna turn back

We need a rubber, man
We need a stretcher, man
A fucking rubber, man
We need a stretcher, man

This is a difficult song to interpret but it seems to me that it's about regretting things in the past and wanting to escape them. The lines 'you're beautiful until i get close you have the eyes of a mountain goat a cold religion a bad smell and a strap broke in my hand'

seem to be about being blinded by appearances and neglecting to see the reality inside the beautiful exterior. In the end this thing turned out to be something of a nightmare.

Definitely about regret. It uses the metaphor of being on a horse-coach (ghost-coach, whipcrack, coachman) and perhaps being able to "hear some people laughing" as though laughing at (Thom), and then regretting it "i jump out of a window". Basically doing something and then later regretting it (I turn the clock back to where I wasn't taken in)....... Jumping out of the window and "I wanna turn back" both fit in with this too........ The only thing I don't understand is "I need a rubber man, I need a stretchy man"......... (NOTE: skttrbrain definitely has the words right the second time.)

Mmh, it could either be about having to stretch oneself to fit reality, or feeling divided between two opposite situations. The stretcher line is about feeling beyond ill. But they're just lines to convey the feelings of powerlessness.

I think he says "you live or you die" at the beginning. I don't know but this is one creepy song.

I really love this song...

About going against the grain and being scared of it, scared of the path that you're on, fantasizing about jumping off and going with the flow (jetstream) because it's easier.
