Stay Away Lyrics

You are the devil
Stay away from me
Stay away from me
Stay away
I am in trouble

But you’re not what I need
You’re not what I need
Even if I’m all alone
? For her
Keep yours to yourself
Cause I’m trying to hold on
To her as long as she can stand it too
Been prying off my fingers one by one
Prying off my fingers one by one

I’ve been praying against you
But the damage has been done
The damage has been done
And it would take a miracle
For her to break my fall
Cause she don’t care at all anymore
And I don’t know why I still do
Why I’m telling you
Cause you are the devil
And you can stay away from me
Stay away form me
Stay away

To hell with my freedom
If it don’t come for free
And I know it don’t come for free

If I give in
Give me bitter songs to play
And some sweet heart to win
Friends I thought I lost
And times I've never been
Just don’t ever make me fall in love again
Shoulda seen us fly out that church
Devil stay away form me
Stay away from me
Stay away

first off, it goes "Even if I’m all alone / Crying out for help" and "To her as long as she can stand it / You've been prying up my fingers one by one / pring up my fingers one by one" and "Friends I thought I'd lost / In towns I've never been"

ammmazzzing. you can just feel the pain he is in. why has no one commented on his songs?

i saw him live on his how to grow a band tour and it was by far the best concert i've ever been to. if you ever get the chance to see him live, do.

this song in particular was incredible live. literally took my breath away. you don't quite get the whole effect on the cd, but this song has some crazy emotion going on. fantastic.

Do not be fooled, this song is not about Jesus or the Devil (I have known people who thought that). Its about not wanting to end a dying relationship. Probably one of the best songs on the album.

This song is one of the best songs on the album because of the content and of the semi-sorta dialogue going on between Chris and the "Devil". The first time I heard this song, I knew exactly what it was about, and Chris Thile even confirmed it. This song is about fighting the urge (which is personified by the "Devil") to break off a relationship which is going downhill. The willingness to continue despite the grim outlook conflicts with the persistent "devil" character's insistence on breaking up. I enjoy the exchange between the two characters as though the character in the relationship is actually talking to the entity.
