The Pilgrim Lyrics
The keys to death and hell
The ailing kingdom doomed to fail
The bonds of sin and heart will break
The pilgrims course will take
Quelling the devils might
And ready for eternal fight
Aching limbs and fainting soul
Holy battles take their toll
Liberty and hope divine
Changing the water into wine
So to you we bid farewell
Kingdom of heaven to hell
Spirit holy life eternal
Raise me up take me home
Pilgrim sunrise pagan sunset
Onward journey begun
To courage find and gracious will
Deliver good from ill
Clean the water clean our guilt
With us do what you will
Then will my judge appear
Bear no false angel that I hear
For only then I will confess
To my eternal hell
Now give us our holy sign
Changing the water into wine
So to you we bid farewell
Kingdom of heaven to hell
Spirit holy life eternal
Raise me up take me home
Pilgrim sunrise pagan sunset
Onward journey begun
SOLO
Now give us our holy sign
Changing the water into wine
So to you we bid farewell
Kingdom of heaven to hell

Sonds like an internal battle between good and evil within the narrater. He tries to resist the evil, but over time he becomes to tired to fight and slowly begins to give in, thus forfieting his place in heaven for hell. Dunno, thats the best I can do at the moment.
I'm never able to tell whether Iron Maiden are being sarcastic or trying to be genuine when talking about religion and occult stuff
its about the crusades
lol. i think metalmaiden is right here
Now give us our holy sign Changing the water into wine So to you we bid farewell Kingdom of heaven to hell
I think this was the pilgrims belief that the church of England was going to hell with corruption and such so they bid farewell and came to america
Cool. I'm glad you analyzed that properly, it makes sense and is very plausible.
"Spirit holy life eternal Raise me up take me home Pilgrim sunrise pagan sunset Onward journey begun"
"Then will my judge appear Bear no false angel that I hear For only then I will confess To my eternal hell"
Metalmaiden, you pompus ass, care to explaine these? I hate to critisize other peoples enterpretations, but your expression begs it. The crusade belief probaly arose from the second verse (however seemed to overlook the word eternal). Not to say your enterpretation is not plausable, however I still firmly retain my own, while knowing a hell of alot more about history than you.
I don't like to criticize other people either, but frankly it doesn't matter whether you know more about history or not. Because Bruce himself says on the DVD that its about the mayflower.
Sry, I guess I realy do need to look into the background of things before I try to refute someone. That being so, could someone please explain the chorus, I still dont get the pagan and heaven to hell part. A 5, no crap, and I was proud of my 4, as for the history major part, same goes for me.
Well cool. We have something in common, so now lets stop argument
