Pretend Lyrics
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
(I don't ever want to pretend that maybe this life won't hold you again)
Baby we don't know
Maybe we don't show
But I can't make you understand
And I can't be the better man
So I don't see the summer gone
And I don't feel your heart has sung
And I won't be the one you love
'Cause your whole world has got to start
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
(I don't ever want to pretend that maybe this life won't hold you again)
Baby we don't know
Maybe we don't show
But I don't think you understand
And I can't be the better man
So I don't see the summer gone
And I don't feel your heart has sung
And I won't be the one you love
'Cause your whole world has got to start
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
(I don't ever want to pretend that maybe this life won't hold you again)
And baby we don't know
And maybe we don't show
But I can't make you understand
And I can't be the better man
So I don't see the summer gone
And I can't feel your heart and soul
But I won't be the one you love
'Cause your whole world has got to stop
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
I don't ever want to pretend
(That maybe this life won't hold you again)
Cutting off what I have loved
(I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again)
Cuttin' me down with love
Holdin' me off this drug
(I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again)
Holdin' me off this drug
Cuttin' us down with love
(Buried inside we're caught...)
That maybe this life won't hold you again
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
I don't ever want to pretend
That maybe this life won't hold you again
Baby we don't know
Maybe we don't show
But I can't make you understand
And I can't be the better man
So I don't see the summer gone
And I don't feel your heart has sung
And I won't be the one you love
'Cause your whole world has got to start
That maybe this life won't hold you again

telling someone who's dying about reincarnation?
i don't know what it's about, but it's lovely.
In fact, it would be easier to work out the meaning if one was sure of the words.

After spending many long and lonely hours listening to this, I've decided that it's the sound of loving someone so much that it hurts. And refusing to allow that person close enough to love you as deeply as you love them, because a love that strong means sadness just as intense. Sadness of knowing that it can never last forever in this lifetime, and not knowing (or disbelieving) that it could continue in another. Though I do agree with another commenter that these lyrics are not quite right, and make for convoluted interpretations.
this song will always remind me of coming down off acid. brilliant memories
