It think this guy is a love masochist. When his girl is around, he can't stand her (''I'd rather die/Then try to keep her by my side'', ''You can kiss my love and I wish you're gone''). They eventually break up, and he realises that he loves her better now she's gone. ''NOW she's gone love burns inside me'', this means, when they were together, love didn't ''burn''. When she was his, he hated her, but he loves her now she doesn't belong to him anymore. But he doesn't want her back. He's quite passionate towards the idea of an unrequited love.

Obviously abouk a break up I think. Agree with the previous comments. Break up of a relationship that was once really good hence the lyrics in the first, third and first line of last verse "Never thought I'd leave you like the way I do, yeah". The third verse tho also contains negatives in an alternating pattern. Relationship was bad at the end perhaps. Still loves the girl hence the love burns inside me... part. But ultimately glad to be out of it.
A thing that most people will experience I think! A break up where the relationship was bad and at the time you're glad to be out but afterwards you miss the person and wonder. Thinking about "the good times" etc.
