(One, two, three, four)
Well I'm a sea-sick sailor on a ship of noise
I got my maps all backwards and my instincts poisoned
In a truth-blown gutter full of wasted years
Like blown-out speakers ringin' in my ears
Oh, it's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
It's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
I'm a straight-line walker with a black-out room
I push a shopping cart over in an Aztec ruin
With my minion fingers working for some god
Who could see his own reflection in a parking lot
Oh, it's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
It's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
(Let's go! ...Yeah! Hey! Woo hoo! Say huh! Yahoo! Right on! Woooo!!! Come on!)
Now I'm a priest teenager on a tower of dust
I'm a dead generator in a cloud of exhaust
In a long-living desert with skulls for my pets
I rate the days, one to ten, with lead cigarettes
Oh, it's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
Nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
(Random chatter)
I got my maps all backwards and my instincts poisoned
In a truth-blown gutter full of wasted years
Like blown-out speakers ringin' in my ears
It's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
I push a shopping cart over in an Aztec ruin
With my minion fingers working for some god
Who could see his own reflection in a parking lot
It's nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone
I'm a dead generator in a cloud of exhaust
In a long-living desert with skulls for my pets
I rate the days, one to ten, with lead cigarettes
Nausea...oh nausea, and we're gone

LIKE WOOT WOOT i get to be the first to speaketh my mindeth on liveth. this is such a good song to listen to. i love the chorus with the nausea bits on. mind you, its not a good song to listen to when you're nauseous. i know, i tell from proper experience. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH HE'S TALKING ABOUT...living a life that you know you're not supposed to be living. wow. got deep?
woow i can't believe i'm only the second person to comment this. beck is so cool, and he's been cool for like a long time and this song is good and unique and yeah. and I'M TRYING TO DOWNLOAD IT ON YAHOO MUSIC RIGHT NOW BUT THE STUPID FUCKING THING'S NOT WORKING. : [
mm i love this song.
Okay, avi2starr... I officially am in love with your comment.
I didnt think you could sum up a meaning to a Beck song in so few words....I think its about toning your abdomen
WTF, does nausea have to do with not living your life right?
I dont know i guess you get a sick feeling in your stomach when you know you've lived a piece of shit life...seems like each character is lamenting on how crappy and meaningless their life has been...and usually those kind of lives are because of fear and because of following what others tell you you should do...which is total bs...always follow your heart desires people or else you'll end up with nausea (not funny)
Beck is freakin' awesome, I just got his album and it is completely tits.
I don't think it has any super-complex deep meaning or anything, but it does jsut seem to be a song about a situation in which everything is just going wrong, a cluster-fuck of sorts. I love it.
this song is about the existantialist book 'nausea'
I agree. Beck must have read Sartre.

Definitely - existential angst is just about the strongest theme you can find in Beck's music. I love it that he's so playful about quoting Sartre and pop music in a song about meaninglessness... yeah its all pointless, he seems to be saying, but that doesn't mean you can't laugh at it.

I agree with GrungyBeatle. I think it's about just looking back on a few years of meaningless existence, no good to anyone. Such awesome words in this.
I'm sorry. When was "tits" made a compliment?
Nausea. God, that groove is fucking nasty. And that's a compliment. I always though the chorus was "Nausea...rock on!" though...oh well. I love the music.
One complaint. The ending. I wish it faded out instead of ending out of nowhere.
