8th Floor Lyrics

no one waits for her inside the house
she spots a stranger in the mirror
and the record spins her nearer
to the outcome of her day
you live inside the city
you forget how tall the trees can get
a bird sits on a branch across
from my eighth floor window

and you can't really say
that it's an eight floor branch
cause trees don't have floors
and buildings do

I came in from the rain which
wasn't really rain it was just
january snow in denial
and something must have gotten lost
in the translation, russian to english
and winter wasn't wintery today

she comes into the house and no one
waits for her inside the house
she spots a stranger in the mirror
and the record spins her nearer
to the outcome of her day
you live inside the city
you forget how tall the trees can get
a bird sits on a branch
of my eighth floor window

i don't speak russian, so i don't know how accurate it is, but i found this from lyricwiki.org: Восьмой этаж Восьмой этаж Все высоко Все надо мной

Вот идет домой Карман пустой Хоть милостыню просите Три рубля на водку и буханку белого хлеба

А теперь, наверное, все дороже И дорожки те забыты А над ними паруса

Первый этаж Я маленькая Все высоко Все надо мной

Восьмой этаж Америка Я высоко Все подо мной Я высоко...

translation!

The eighth floor The eighth floor Everything's high Everything is above me

Somebody is coming home Pocket is empty You could go begging It's three rubles for vodka and a loaf of white bread

But now, for certain, everything's more expensive And the old paths are forgotten Above them we set sail

The first floor I'm really small Everything's high Everything is above me

The eighth floor America I am high Everything is below me I am high...

I got the same thing on Google Translater, great lyrics!

i think this ones about Regina coming to America. She comes home and looks in the mirror to see a totally different person. She looks out the window to see something that reminds her of when she used to live on the first floor (poor), and I'm gonna assume that she means Russia by the first floor too because in the translated part American is the eigth floor. I also think this because when she sings in Russian shes speaking from the view of someone who lives on the first floor.

I love, love, love the part about the rain being January snow in denial. She is fantastic.

And I love listening to the Russian part, despite not understanding a word.

the translation is good :D "i'm really small" should actually be just "i'm small," but it doesn't really matter

this is a great song. i always hear interviews of regina saying that she loved listening to the beatles despite the language barrier, and i can relate because the rusian in this song is so striking. learning phoneticly is even great.
