They Shoot Horses Don't They Lyrics

They Shoot Horses Don't They

What can you trust
You can trust the open eyes
Looking out from
The bodies blutter (?) skies,
Autumn colors
Lined (?) in me from up above
Would be fire
If we were making love

Where is that body
That zeros in avant-garde (?)
Total surrender
Like a junkie unharmed (?)
I've seen beauty
From the belly on um (?)
Tell me something
Anything
You can hear inside a song

Goodnight
Palace of pleasure
Good morning blues
I guess we'll never know
What could have been
The dream is over
Go back to sleep again

Who needs thinking
When the drinks are on the house
Evaporating
All the time I was in doubt
I've been sleeping
With a better girl than you
Loved her stories
All the photographs
Its true

Goodnight
Palace of pleasure
Good morning blues
I guess we'll never know
What could've been
The dream is over
Go back to sleep again

The dream is over
Go back to sleep again

i agree with you, underthestars32, about alcohol and sex, but id say its trying to compensate for lost love. especially the last 2 verses:

Who needs thinking When the drinks are on the house Evaporating All the time I was in doubt I've been sleeping With a better girl than you Loved her stories All the photographs Its true

Goodnight Palace of pleasure Good morning blues I guess we'll never know What could've been The dream is over Go back to sleep again

the 2nd last verse alludes to the lost love, saying that he had been sleeping with a better girl than he is now, and the last verse is saying goodbye to the old, seemingly euphoric ways of love. the dream is over (love), and he is trying to go back to sleep (re-find it in all the old places)

idk this is just my interpretation, probably just because i can relate to this view.

I think it goes The body’s blood disguise Autumn colors Blindin’ me from up above, Would be fire, If we were making love.

I love this song, especially "who needs thinking when the drinks are on the house" This song gives such a feeling of udder surrender.

My favourite line:

Where is that body That zeroes in on god

.. this song is all about abandoning yourself to sublime and intoxicating pleasure, like a dream, but then in the morning sadness, 'the blues', is back again. Like waking up on a day you know is going to be bad, or after a night of abandoning reality with sex and alcohol, you just want to roll over and go back to sleep to avoid the coming day, wishing you were back in the dream that's already vanished.

It's great that the song itself is so intoxicating.
