this song is about being in a band, obviously. but at the same time, it's a commentary on the music scene today.

The weight of gravity pulls on everyone.") i would imagine the line, "and i'm afraid of you tonight, those striped socks and punk rock pajamas," is speaking to the anxiety a musician experiences when performing for people who are likely to form a strong opinion (judgment) about their creation.

This is such a good song. It's actually better live in my opinion.
It has such a sad sad feel to it, but it's not about a girl, I find that interesting.
Does anyone think this song could have a parallel meaning? In addition to possible meaning of wanting to get of the music scene crap, maybe he's also talking about a relationship?

That's what I always thought it meant, like he's talking about how he won't ever be too far away from his wife. Plus he says "for better or worse" which are part of wedding vows. I don't see how people get the music scene thing, is that what Mike Kinsella said?

Actually nevermind, it seems to kinda mix the two, like he has to settle down and stay with his wife. You're right, if you ever even see this. Who the hell knows, you might be dead, this was four years ago.

I think like all music that it has the artist's meaning and then the listener's meaning. Music means something different to everyone.
