So Long to the Circus Lyrics
Sometimes I miss the circus but I know why I ran away
I stepped right out of that song while it played
I lit it like a stage and I gave it like a gift
What I got out of it is this
Be suspicious but friendly to your elders
Be friendly but suspicious to other circuses
Trust your friends even if you can't trust your friends
You've already agreed to travel with them
So long to the circus, so long to it all
I've always had a good sense of when it's time to get gone
When the police are about to arrive, when security steps in
Wave goodbye to the circus
Sometimes I miss the circus and the friends I made
Never would have left had you stayed
You left us like a stage that you'd outgrown
Leaving me stunned and all alone
So long to the circus, so long to it all
I've always had a good sense of when it's time to get gone
When the police are about to arrive, when security steps in
Wave goodbye to the circus
Wave goodbye to the circus, don't cry
It was just another circus, it was just your first time
You didn't know what you were doing, you couldn't know what you missed
What did you get out of this?
That Love is real, unstoppable
Actually a wild animal
Self-interested, amoral and cruel
And you got between it and food
So long to the circus, so long to it all
You should have a good sense of when it's time to get gone
When the police are about to arrive, when security steps in
Wave goodbye to the circus
I stepped right out of that song while it played
I lit it like a stage and I gave it like a gift
What I got out of it is this
Be friendly but suspicious to other circuses
Trust your friends even if you can't trust your friends
You've already agreed to travel with them

fucking amazing.
Oh, what a great song! They played this as a closing and there was confetti and silly string as we bade the circus a sad farewell!
One day I'm gonna run away and JOIN this circus.
This is about a guy that my sister used to be friends with. The World/Inferno knew him, and he ran away and joined the circus. He got kicked out in two days, however, for being "emotionally unstable." Advast, this lovely song is the result of his tale. :)
This song always brings a tear to my eye... It's also the song that I first heard from Inferno.
Strange fact coinciding with FastFallerSky's story, in the film Mad Love(starring Peter Lorre), Rollo the knife thrower was beheaded for killing his girlfriend's father(they all worked in a Circus), I believe. He was then apprehended by the police. When the time came for his execution, he was actually kind of calm about it, in a particularly funny way, which makes me think about how calm and accepting Jack sounds when he says the last "It's time to get gone"....
Also, strangely, the line "I lit it like a stage and I gave it like a gift" is similar to a line in Jeffrey Lee. Also ironic because Inferno used to perform unauthorized pyrotechnics at shows, sometimes almost(accidentally or purposely) catching the building on fire.
It's also about a punk band being broken up because something one of the band members did to involve the cops and security.
All of these references sort of amass into a sort of prophetic ending of Inferno, or it could at least be interpreted as such. "As much as I don't want to remember this and how I wish it would last forever, let me put it another way. I know you're hoping for some permanence but there really is no place for this, your tattoos- they're gonna fade." And I know a lot of Infernites who got tatoos referencing Inferno. Somehow, they seem to know it's going to end very dramatically. So sad, yet probably true....
Also, he wasn't beheaded when he killed his girlfriend's father, he had to be apprehended and sent to the city to be executed first. No point in trying to behead a body that had no head, lol.
