I agree with everyone about the reference to drugs but I believe there is more to it than that

I think the song is describing a situation where someone is incredibly depressed, turning to drugs to ease the pain

"starts with one I can’t feel it’s all in your mind anyway i can’t heal make me feel this way, oh"

The attempt of temporary comfort becomes an actual attempted suicide as they take another (pill possibly) and another, all the time telling himself he has been numbed by his pain and there is nothing else for him to do or say

"only three I can’t seem to get enough anyway I can’t speak nothing to say anyway"

the person is trying to make the rest of the world understand his pain by showing them it the only way he knows how, by taking his own life.

"let’s show them the only way let’s show them our hearts"

and the last few stanza's could describe a near death experience, seeing the guiding light from above, cold perhaps with the feeling of on coming death. he watches his reality and the present "today" fade away and blur into something else

Beautifully cryptic. If its about drugs, its about drugs. But the bits about showing them our hearts sounds so epic.

My personal fav. is the last stanza, "there goes today" that is an amazing range for this guy. I'm in awe.

Both his and Carah's rage vocally is astounding. Agreed that this is a beautiful song. Lyricallly, Shiny Toy Guns never fails to impress

I believe this song is about drugs. Like the more you take, the more impaired you become. Things start looking so different and unreal, and you feel these odd sensations.

maybe " starts with one" is it begins the first time you took the drug or had sex. and yoou only need it to happen once. then you know how to do it and you just can't stop
