Immature Lyrics

How could I be so immature ?
To think he could replace,
The missing elements in me,
How extremely lazy of me

How could I be so immature ?
To think he could replace,
The missing elements in me,
How extremely lazy of me.

How could I be so immature ?
How could I be so immature ?

not just for women.

I think it's a continuation of 5 years. In 5 years, she's blaming the other person for everything...she's angry; and now she's blaming herself

I really love this song. I enjoy all the different renditions, but right now, my favorite is a live performance with horns. Maybe because it sounds so full of warmth, and reminds me of "Overture" and "Blade Runner".

As for the lyrics, I find them deep with a lot of meaning. I think Bjork (in regards to her broken spirit), is wondering how naive (or immature) she could have been "to think he could replace, The missing elements" in her. I think at the end she even sings out "silly girl".

At the time, she figured being in a relationship would solve all her problems and help her become happy. That another person would be able to fill in all the gaps and spaces of her spirit. But now, I think she realizes how naive and how "extremely lazy" it was for her to think it would work. I guess this is just one experience of many for Bjork, where she learns that no one is perfect, that its normal to make mistakes and to have faults, to feel gloomy. She learns that there are no lazy solutions to finding complete happiness (if it exists at all), but that its definitely something to strive for everyday.

I guess to sum it all up, I could use a line from Bjork's "who is it" where she says "Carry my joy on the left Carry my pain on the right". That the human spirit is built on both and thats just the way it is.

The speaker naïvely thought that her lover would "complete" her.

Very melancholy, but very much to the point. You turn around after you've ended a relationship and wonder what the hell it was about - you realise that you only went into it because you didn't want to be single ... but now you realise what a waste of time was and you don't need anyone to make you feel complete. So common!

I agree with jimmyupt.

I don't understand the song as "you don't need anyone to make you feel complete" - I think it's more about realising you're not complete. And you're lover shouldn't necessarily complete you. If you think it as a continuation of 5 years, you could say that she is a coward too, because she was so lazy: she thought they would complete eachother and that the "completeness" would keep them together. But as 5 years also indicates: You have to fight for love.

Agreed. I do think it's about having put all your trust in someone only to be fucked over, and you realise you're never gonna put yourself in that situation again...you don't need anyone else to be happy or complete you.

It's not an anthem for women. It's an anthem for people. Nobody should think their lover is going to complete them.
