I think that by "God is a popstar" Oomphs didn't mean anything cynical. I guess it's a kind of irony directed at the Christian church that is now really commercialised.

I think it's showing how Christianity is a mere fashion statement in modern times. It's almost a fashion label for some people to go to Christian things and call themselves a Christian.

well i'm pretty sure it's not just about christians! i guess it's about this whole stupid religion thing going on right know. people are killing each other bacuse of stupid things like that. almost everyone has a religion that he/she supports - for what?! if there wouldn't be relgions, people wouldn't kill in the game of god/allah/whoever. it's in a way ironic, because the world is praising god because of his grace and all that stuff, but in the end he (as a symbol which people take a as an apology for doing bad things) makes everything worse.

what do religious institutions want from up? - money. same as celebrities (pop stars) what else? - attention. same as celebrities. what happens over them? - conflict (war) same as hardcore (especially soccer and hockey fans) constantly keep getting into fights after a game.

its not really God's fault. its interpretation. how church is basically "give us money and God will forgive your sins." just so that the institution gets richer. its a simple abuse.

This is pretty much about how some people have abused the title of being a Christian, like pastors and priests on TV (i.e. Kerney Thomas) who take money and fame in exchange for granting forgiveness. Good song.

I'm a Christian myself, albeit an old fashioned one, and I'd have to agree with most of the people here. I think that it's about Christian denominations commercializing the Lord. I think that a lot of Christian churches make out God to be a popstar, rather than a Father and a Creator.

I think it is just as much (if not more) about the glorification and sacralisation of celebrity. Society tends to worship celebrities nowadays and the song ironically worships the celebrities too as though they were the Christian God, even directly quoting the Lord's Prayer - a statement that we are replacing our spirituality with capitalism and shallow fandoms.
