Fix what’s wrong, but don’t rewrite what the artist wrote. Stick to the official released version — album booklet, label site, verified lyric video, etc. If you’re guessing, pause and double-check.
Respect the structure
Songs have rhythm. Pages do too. Leave line breaks where they belong. Don’t smash things together or add extra empty space just for looks.
Punctuation counts (but vibe-editing doesn’t)
Correct typos? Yes. Re-punctuating a whole verse because it ‘looks better’? Probably not. Keep capitalization and punctuation close to the official source.
Don’t mix versions
If you’re editing the explicit version, keep it explicit. If it’s the clean version, keep it clean. No mashups.
Let the lyrics be lyrics
This isn’t the place for interpretations, memories, stories, or trivia — that’s what comments are for. Keep metadata, translations, and bracketed stage directions out unless they’re officially part of the song.
Edit lightly
If two lines are wrong… fix the two lines. No need to bulldoze the whole page. Think ‘surgical,’ not ‘remix.’
When in doubt, ask the crowd
Not sure what they’re singing in that fuzzy bridge? Drop a question in the comments and let the music nerds swarm. Someone always knows.
I was about 9yo (1972) when my sister came home with this rather plain looking album.... painting of a peach in a toy truck; ... I had to wait till my older sister left the house, then I sneeked into her room, and opened up the album...WOW what a cool painting... EAT a PEACH; Dedicated to a brother: Duane Allman
Knowing nothing about this band at 9 years old, by pure fate I pulled out one of the albums.. and put on Mountain Jam... The rest is truly history. Those opening notes, I couldn't get them out of my mind. The song just blew me away. I shoveled the driveway so that my Mom would buy me my own copy of Eat a Peach. For me Mountain Jam started a 40+ year love of music and guitar playing. Duane Allman- you are truly missed; rest in peace Brother!
Listening to this with my eyes closed proved to be eventful meditation:
What started out as me trying to imagine myself at the Fillmore East when this was recorded turned into an opening of an old wound I had forgotten about. The drum solo made me imagine a fist fight I was involved in and then I filled my head with images with making love to a girl, which was when the guitar-mimicking-a-bird-chirping started. I then contemplated my future with her, as well as love and God (are they the same?) as equal competitors for the best feeling in the world. Then I thought of laughter, and Mitch Hedberg, and I found myself filled with so much joy that tears of it began rolling down my face. Before I knew it, 33 minutes was over.
That's a great story, Shep. I listen to this song back-to-back-to-back in the wee hours of the night/morning as I'm trying to pass the time while writing college essays. They're done in no time.
When Duane Allman gives the role-call of the band, and ends with "I'm Duane Allman, thank you".. I get chills down my spine..
Either you have NO Clue about guitar or duel lead playing or your just upset that your George Micheal 'Wham' cd started skipping or was it that your little sister torn your 'Justin Timberlake' poster off your bedroom wall.

Incredible song, luckily they play it all the time at the resturant where I work, I never get sick of it!!!
The wife pointed something out today as we were listening to this. She wasn't even aware of the title to this song.
Re-occuring parts of the melody of this song sound very similiar to Donovan's "There is a Mountain".
Do you think that is what jamming to?
This is the best instrumental song of all time
Whoa, talk about your pieces of crap. If you want to listen to a mediocre band practice for a half hour, you might like this.
