Little airplane in the sky you point up at it
I watch your face as you watch it go by
Everything is perfect

Where would I be right now
If all my dreams had come true
Deep down I know somehow
I'd have never seen your face

This world would be a different place
Darling there's no way to know
Which way your heart will go

Summer sun on a sandy slide
Silver swing set shining
How can life feel so alive
And still feel like dying

Where would I be right now
If all my dreams had come true
Deep down I know somehow
I'd have never seen your face

This world would be a different place
Darling there's no way to know
Which way your heart will go

A stack of books beside our bed
Living out of boxes
Why does the empty space fill with dread
Why does change still shock us

Where would we be right now
If all our dreams had come true
Deep down I know somehow
I'd have never seen your face

This world would be a different place
Darling there's no way to know
Which way your heart will go
Which way your heart will go

I'd have never seen your face This world would be a different place

So many dreams do not play out the way we would like them to, for better or worse, but they are a reality which is faced. I'd like to think he's grateful his dreams didn't come true, because if they had he would not have met this person, whoever it is. This person changed him. It could be interpreted as a song not about love at all, but of course I like to think that is. I love it.

"Where would I be right now If all my dreams had come true Deep down I know somehow I'd have never seen your face This world would be a different place Darling, there's no way to know Which way your heart will go"

"How can life feel so alive And still feel like dying (...) Why does the empty space fill with dread Why does change still shock us"

    My Interpretation

'Little airplane in the sky,you point up as it,I watch your face as you watch it go by', that's what children do and say when they first start seeing planes in the air. It's usually an exciting event for a child and they like to show the parents who usually do not notice because we have lost our ability to be thrilled by spectacular things that are seemingly so commonplace as to appear mundane. Seems like perhaps the child was an accident. Perhaps he got a woman he did not love pregnant, and would have never seen his child had his life went as planned.

perfection is imperfection. if things worked out they way he always planed or wished for, then he would have never met his love/lover that means so much to him now. So in a way be thankful for everything that happens because in some way it will bring both happiness and misfortune. sometimes you just need to go with the flow, roll with the punches if you will

This song has a serene yet blue tone, which penetrates the listeners’ soul and induces recollections of our goals and the people whom we are close to, and if they have any correlation at all. So many strong relations bud from the hard times that we never intend to have. We always wonder where we would be if all went as planned, if every step on our path of life gave us another flawless brick to construct our dream castle with. Yet our deviation from the ideal is the cause for our finer feelings, it builds character. I love this song because it’s a reminder that every seemingly meaningless interaction can make a world of a difference in someone’s life. So powerful…

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
