Q&A
For the Sake of Remembering Lyrics
so many obvious questions have gone unmasked
how can you stand and where do you fall so fast
youre taking a step and youre taking a breath
you never expect the answer was death
cause this truth is hardly true
nights that you found her
and days spent without her
make everything feel like its slipping away
as you scream
"this world is far
this world is far from ours"
after some time i imagine you sleep alright
until times you that hear her voice at night
you're telling yourself that its all in your head
she's out on the porch and you're closer to dead
cause its not what she deserves
nights that you found her
and days spent without her
make everything feel like its slipping away
as you scream
"this world is far
this world is far from ours"
well the picture frame on the dark beige wall
holds a picture of someone youve held before
now, shes nowhere to be seen
the picture frame on the dark beige wall
holds a picture of someone you've held before
now shes nowhere to be seen
nights that you found her
and days spent without her
make everything feel like its slipping away
as you scream
"this world is far
this world is far from ours"
you know

this is david melillo's best song, by far.
I ADORE this song. But isn't it go "unasked" not "unmasked"? I also think I hear "you never expect that the answer was death" Either way, it's an extremely powerful song. I see it as an unexpected death & Dave & those around him are trying to cope. Makes me cry every time. I lovelove Dave.
sx edge i think youre right about the "you never expect that the answer was death" but i listened to it a few times and am pretty sure its 'unmasked', either way as you said its an amazing song. i think this song is about dave and an ex that he still really likes, only really hurt her or messed up somehow and now theres no communication between them and he misses her.
this song is obviously about a sudden death. i kept this song with me when my cousin died earlier this summer. there is no way this song is about a relationship in which he hurt her or anything like that, change around the gender a few pronouns and this is an exact reflection of how i was thinking when i was grieving.
To me it sounds like the song's about someone who commited suicide. It sounds like the singer had spent time trying to reassure her and it didn't work.
But the sudden death also seems very plausable.
i agree with sampintoknowsitall, i don't think it's about a relationship i'm pretty sure it's about a girl close to him unexpectedly dying. it does point to suicide because she "haunts" him and he feels responsible as a lot of people would if their friend killed themselves, but i'm not sure if that's right.
amazing song, tho. dave's songs are chilling.
This is a song about death whether it's sudden or not I dont know. But I think it's about someone that is having a hard time coping with the death and every now and then they feel as though they're still around. Then when they realize that it's "all in their head" the pain of knowing that they're not really there is what "they don't deserve".
David wrote this song for his friends mother. She passed away when they were very young.
I definitley think it is about a relationship that didn't work out and he doesn't think that girl doesn't deserve to be in a relationship with a guy that is never around.
wow. what a beautiful song.
when he hits that one last note...it's amazing.
i think the song is just about how he was in a relationship with a great girl, and he hurt her, but he didn't mean to, and now he just misses her.
