Gray Or Blue Lyrics
I feel so helpless now
My guitar is not around
And I'm struggling with the xylophone
To make these feelings sound
And I'm remembering you singing
And bringin' you to life
It's raining out the window
And today it looks like night
You haven't written to me in a week
I'm wondering why that is
Are you too nervous to be lovers
Friendship's ruined with just one kiss?
I watched you very closely, I saw you look away
Your eyes are either gray or blue
I'm never close enough to say
But your sweatshirt says it all
With the hood over your face
I can't keep starin' at your mouth
Without wonderin' how it tastes
I'm with another boy
(He's asleep, I'm wide awake )
And he tried to win my heart
But it's taken
(Time...)
I know the shape of your hands
Because I watch 'em when you talk
And I know the shape of your body
'Cause I watch it when you walk
And I want to know it all
But I'm giving you the lead
So go on, go on and take it
Don't fake it, shake it
(Charming
Crazy eyes have you
Are they gray or blue?
I won't make the move
You must make the move
If you make the move
I will then approve
If you do not move
We will surely lose...)
Don't second-guess your feelings
You were right from the start
And I notice she's your lover
But she's nowhere near your heart
This city is for strangers
Like the sky is for the stars
But I think it's very dangerous
If we do not take what's ours
And I'm winning you with words
Because I have no other way
I'd love to look into your face
Without your eyes turning away
Last night I watched you sing
Because a person has to try
And I walked home in the rain
Because a person cannot lie...
My guitar is not around
And I'm struggling with the xylophone
To make these feelings sound
And I'm remembering you singing
And bringin' you to life

Jaymay introduced this song in a performance with the following words: "a story of loving somebody that doesnt love you...but you're always pretending you love somebody else anyway."
The somebody else is the "other boy" she refers to in the song.

To me, instead of being just about a crush, I think it's about a situation where a girl likes a guy a lot, and he kind of likes her too, but he doesn't WANT to give in to liking her, because he's afraid that it won't work out or that it might not be the right thing-- whatever the reason, he just won't just LET it happen, and he's kind of shutting her out to avoid letting her in., but she knows it's meant to be-- he just needs to take a chance on love.
This is what I think of the song
She had a friend who she fell madly in love with and she knew even he liked her.. Something happened , they kissed and made out.. and Then I think the guy got afraid.. She knows that somewehere deep down in his heart this boy loves her but he's too scared to accept it and so he's a got himself a new girlfriend to get his mind of her...
Even she got a boyfriend but she's still waiting for him to realise he still loves her. She thinks she will definately get him back one day but till then she is just waiting and being with the wrong guy.
she also says that she's tried enough to be with him and that if he wants to be with her too he will take chances and make it happen.. (i will not move, if u do not move we will surely lose - these lines come in the background)
whatdya guys think?
Everyone, whether we know it or not has felt this way before. It sucks when you know you can't do much about it and then when you finally get the courage to do something, it's too late and they've moved on... Anyway very beautiful song<33
this is the kind of song i wish i wrote. i love the simplicity of the melody and how earnest the words are..."i can't keep staring at your mouth without wondering how it tastes."
I thought it sounded as though she's been friends with this boy for a long time and she has had a crush on him. Then they kissed ("Are you too nervous to be lovers, Friendship's ruined with just one kiss?") but he got nervous and backed off. She still likes him and wishes they could at least be friends, but she scared him off. Maybe that's not right, but it sounded that way to me.
I think it's about a girl and guy who are best friends. They kissed, it made things weird. He confessed feelings for her "don't second guess your feelings, you were right from the start". She wants to get together with him, but waited too long and she can't have successful relationships with any other guys because he is still on her mind. "I'm with another boy, he's asleep I'm wide awake. He can try to win my heart but it's taken..."
this song is so relatable.
I agree with both trentmil and embeminem.
She said in a concert that the song, and album for that matter, is about a boy she met, fell in love with, and never got to continue her relationship with. The rest of the songs of that album are describing how she met him, what it was like when he moved to montreal. When she didn't want to "ruin the friendship" it's only because it was brand new. She had been writing him from New York, where he used to live.
It's a really sweet song.
Love this song, it describes a crush so perfectly, when you're unsure of how the other person feels. Beautiful.
I love the part where she says' "But it's taken...(time)" -- cool play on words! :-)
