The Censor Lyrics

It's not a song about old friends
Backstabbers, leeches, or cretins
It's not about you, and it isn't true

It's not a song about family
How the lack thereof can be crippling
It's not about you, and it isn't true

These songs are getting smothered by the consideration of others

It's not a song about another girl
An old flame I long to rekindle
It's not about you, and it isn't true

It's not about our conversations
(Don't worry, I'm not taping)
It's not about you, and it isn't true

Some stories can be so dull, so you get a little personal

Lately I've been afraid, maybe I say too much
Maybe the ones involved are feeling the rub - while I play dumb

I'm sure this sentiment could come off as arrogant
To assume you're all hung up on such trifling melody
It's not you, it's me with whom I'm concerned
What have I done?

This song reminds me of Nonsense alot.

Kind of feels like it's Tim saying he's not going to write his trademark personal lyrics anymore.

Actually, it sounds like he's saying that he already hasn't been, ie Happy Hollow. The songs on Happy Hollow are stories, and the only thing really personal about him is his dissatisfaction with religion.

But he sounds like he kind of regrets it. I mean, these lyrics are pretty self-explanitory. With the "songs are getting smothered" and the "what have I done".

I feel bad that these amazing songs that he gives to us are putting him through this. Personally, I'm willing to accept any kind of lyrics from him. They're always amazing, personal or not.
