Guess What? Lyrics

Guess what? We're your parents.
And you're going to come live with us.
And we're going to have a great time.
Wait wait wait wait.

Guess what? I already knew that.
I could tell the first time I saw my mother's eyes.
Well, wait wait wait wait.
Alright...

Sorry, see we were just kids then.
We were just kids and we were in trouble,
And we didn't know what to do.
Wait.

So trouble means that you're in your twenties,
With plenty of moneys to support yourself,
And your mother while she raises your little child.
Wait.

This song made me laugh the first time I heard it, lol. Just the sound of it was so, not the typical Early November sound.

As for the meaning, I'm a bit confused at exactly what they're trying to get across. I thought I got the obvious point, but then the ending verses confused me.

this song is about when dean has to go live with his real parents since the grandparents died. its supposed to be funny and its supposed to sound the way it does. ace is trying to get across to the listener through lyrics as well as sound just exactly how sarcastic dean feels. the last couple of lines is dean saying to his parents that they cant say they couldn't afford to keep him since deans dad was a lawyer and had money. they basically just were young and didnt wanna deal with having a kid.

I love how it's so whimsical! So awful for Dean, but a really creative take on it.

is this whole story just supposed to be funny?

yeh, the first verse is taken from the parents, telling dean that they are his parents Dean replies in the 2nd verse, when he says that he already knew this In the 3rd verse, the parents are giving him an excuse for why they couldn't take him. But in the 4th verse, Dean shows that he is having none of it, he feels that they could have taken him back anytime since they have a perfect life and are financially stable. I just started listenin to early november, and i gotta say, im lovin it, v. good!
