Help Me Lyrics

Lord, Help me walk
Another mile, just one more mile;
I'm tired of walkin' all alone.

Lord, Help me smile
Another smile, just one more smile;
You know I just can't make it on my own.

I never thought I needed help before;
I thought that I could get by - by myself.
Now I know I just can't take it any more.
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, Help Me.

Come down from Your golden
And throne to me, to lowly me;
I need to feel the touch of Your tender hand.

Remove the chains of darkness
Let me see, Lord let me see;
Just where I fit into your master plan.

I never thought I needed help before;
I thought that I could get by - by myself.
Now I know I just can't take it any more.
With a humble heart, on bended knee,
I'm beggin' You, please, Help Me.

i think this may be the most beautiful song he's ever sang. it's like he's at the point in his life when he doesn't have to sing to anybody else. it's just a song to God. just a prayer. i love it.

Wow. I can't belive im the first person to comment this great song. I belive its about growing old,nearing death,and just talking to God about helping him to keep on going.

This is a song about Larry Gatlin, the guy who wrote it back in '71, at a time when he thought he lost everything and turned to god. It was first released on Kris Kristofferson's 'Jesus was a capicorn' with Gatlin also singing on it. I read that Gatlin was discovered by both Cash and Kristofferson. They were walking together down a street and passed a church and could hear gatlin singing. He did his first gigs with Kristofferson and then became famous in his own right. All the gokd in California is his biggest song. Later in life he turned to hard drugs, but now, as he puts it, found god again. By the way, I don't believe in the bible, but I do like both this song and Why Me Lord by Kristofferson. Cash also covered Why Me Lord.

@benjimi thanks for telling the backstory! I didn't check it before. Now the song makes even more sense.

i can agree with the person above on part of this. but the main meaning of this song is that he lost his wife and doesn't know how to continue.. his broken heart wouldn't mend...

@cut_you_down OK The title of the song is misleading. It's 'Help Me' a song writtin by L Gatlin that Cash covered. However, the lyrics are from 'Help me make it through the Night' writtin by Kris Kristofferson and covered by 100s of other artists including the song. The title of the song came from Kris Kristofferson reading an article in a paper about Sinatra and Frank said 'A bible helps him through the night'
