Food For Thought Lyrics

faced with a challenge of finding right and wrong
in a brand new world that recognizes none
it's hard for me to believe in all my travels
I'm the only one
the only one

using food for thought and thought for food
all I have is my attitude, the hour glass
and my ever-changing mood

faced with a challenge of doing all the novel talk
wondering how to pay for the things my mouth has bought

wanting to say the right things whenever I talk
I changed the way I stood and the way I walked

lord help me find my way
so that I may go forward
and lead the way

want to lose the negative but all I lose is time
there's a constant battle going on
a chained heart and mind who's winning

faced with a challenge of knowing right from wrong
having no preference or allegiance to either one

Cover art for Food For Thought lyrics by Dionne Farris

She's feeling lonely in a world where she is taken as a stranger just because she dares to think by herself and this has left her without anything (emotional or material). I mean this world has often denied to her a space for finding her own answers about right and wrong, since her heart&mind need to work just like the other ones do it. So she's feeling she has lost this battle against this world that insists on chaining her as time seems to run fast through her hands. Wherever she is, she feels lost in her own thoughts, which don't find a place for 'existing' in this world that is ruining itself on ignoring what is right and what is wrong, since the truth has become something flexible. For this reason, she has created attitudes for herself ("I changed the way I stood and the way I walked") for facing this challenge, which is to exist without being swallowed by this new reality around her. Wonderful song indeed!
