My Last Song to Jenny Lyrics

Oh tell me please
that I don't have to read
between the lines
Hey this is me
and you don't have to keep
something heavy on your mind
Did you sleep?
Not a wink
Well neither did I

I've never been
too good at readin' in
between the lines
So babe spell it out
but you don't have to shout
when you're talking to me
Do you care?
Do you care?
Are you there?
Well neither am I

Don't lock your door
everyone is poor
between the lines
And I could never steal
the sadness you feel
when your changing you mind
Oh my dear
Can you hear?
Well neither can I

I want to live
and I want you to live
happy and free
But I don't know how
to seperate the now
from what used to be
Will you sleep?
Not a wink
Well neither will I

I think that Jenny is unhappy but she wont come out and say that there is a problem. She's hoping that he will be able to read between the lines and realize on his own that something isn't right. She's unhappy and they've been arguing about everything but what the real problem is. What does this song mean to me? I think that she isn't happy with where she is in her life and in the relationship she is in and just wants to live "happy and free" but he didn't see it coming and now that he sees whats happening he's having trouble separating the relationship that he thought he was in (in his mind) and the relationship that he's really in. (But I don't know how to seperate the now from what used to be). And neither are happy about it.

I believe that Jenny is ready to check out of the relationship and he knows it but she's having problems communicating that to him. I believe people check out of the relationship long before they really let their feelings known and I think he's trying to tell her that he knows.

Seth played this song in Detroit on Saturday by himself on stage and right before this verse, "I want to live and I want you to live happy and free," he said at the time he said those words, they weren't true but he was hoping that one day he would mean it.

I'm a dude that never cries, but I do it every time I listen to any live version of this song pre 2010. The emotion Seth puts into this song is too much early on in the Bros' career.

People have pointed out his comments when he plays it live. I think he does know how to read between the lines well (he recognizes it). It's so heart-wrenching to anyone who knows what it means to love someone who's drifting away but also "changing their mind" at the same time. It's hard to explain really. Hell of a song though.

this is so true. it seems to be about a relationship that is going badly, and they don't know how to end it. when you can't even say the words and start the conversation that will make it all over.

I believe Seth must have dated Jenny. I saw them in concert last week and just before he sang the last verse he said "When I wrote this last verse I didn't mean it yet, but I mean it now" sigh.

I think it definitely has to do with Jenny not liking the relationship that she's in. He can sense something is wrong, but she won't come out and say it. She hopes that he'll read between the lines. I also think the whole neither do I part is Seth's way of saying that he cares about her but he's not going to show it if she's not.
