Comeback Kid Lyrics
With all the fire set in our eyes
Without a cornerstone to realize
That later on we'll build the pyre
And burn so easily well everyone but me
And soon we'll sing in better moods
A sigularity well everyone but you
They'll pull the nerves out through the pores
Though bruised so easily the comeback kid's not
Bleeding
With words that defied all our social gestures
No one could've known what the comeback kid did
No words could describe all the social pressures
That leads to the time when the comeback kid wins
And wins
And now we sing in better moods
Together whispering well everyone but you
And later on we built that pyre
And burned so easily well everyone but me
With words that defied all our social gestures
No one could've known what the comeback kid did
No words could define all the social pressures
That leads to the time when the comeback kid wins...
Without a cornerstone to realize
That later on we'll build the pyre
And burn so easily well everyone but me
A sigularity well everyone but you
They'll pull the nerves out through the pores
Though bruised so easily the comeback kid's not
Bleeding
No one could've known what the comeback kid did
No words could describe all the social pressures
That leads to the time when the comeback kid wins
And wins
Together whispering well everyone but you
And later on we built that pyre
And burned so easily well everyone but me
No one could've known what the comeback kid did
No words could define all the social pressures
That leads to the time when the comeback kid wins...

This song has such an intense yet mellow climax, like most of their songs. Im surprised no one has attempted to interpet it yet.
From what i can put together this song is about conforming to society, and how the "comeback" opened his ("me") and another's ("you") eyes to the lack of logic and individuality associated with conformity, through his "words that defied all our social gestures".
To burn a "pyre", which the mythical sphynx did, means to build yourself up only to burn your self down, and start again (the sphynx would build a pyre of straw and light it on fire). Which can be related to the fads societies thoughtlessly goes through, how people become obsessed and completley immersed in a style (for example) only to throw it all away for a different one. "With words that defied all our social gestures" the comeback kid allowed them ("me" and "you") to step back and see this. Now they can "see in better moods" a "singularity", being the group of mindless followers, only now he exludes "you".
The Comeback kid's "words" have had such a deep impact on the two that "No one could have known what the comeback kid did".
The comback kid "isnt bleeding yet" like the others, possibly meaning that not fitting in with society does not negatively effect him, and he feels no need to conform. He's confident, and the two unlike him "bruise" from their differences in comparison to society, thus they: "pull the nerves out Through the pores That bruise so easily" to prevent bleeding and bruising, they eliminate the source of pain (nerves).
Now they are changed and "you" dont whisper with everyone, and everyone burns but "me". The comback kid won the two "me" and "you", and the lyrics even repeat the word "win" twice, representing the two.
I learned about silversun on 'One tree hill' and i dont even watch that show..
I'm liking this song more and more. I think Brian perhaps sees himself as the comeback kid, but I have no idea who the 'you' is, if anyone.
think the song is full of energy? check out the music video. amazing.
I feel the song is about growing up in a world full of challenges and pressures to where you have to handle things yourself and be mature
The "She" and the "He" are having an argument. She is bound by social principles in society and cannot act outside of them while he can. He uses the term comeback kid in reference to himself. Basically saying "The comeback kid isn't held back by society; the comeback kid will speak his mind"
The pyre is a metaphor for the way we act in society - it's uncontrollable, volatile, infectious, and powerful from a dark perspective. You start the pyre anytime you enter a social situation. The pyre is conformity to society.
"With all the fire set in her eyes Without a cornerstone to realize That later on we'll build the pyre And burn so easily Well, everyone but me"
He isn't effected by the pyre of social occasions. He doesn't conform to all the rest and he doesn't let the pyre burn with him.
"And soon we'll see in better moods A singularity Well, everyone but you We'll pull the nerves out Through the pores That bruise so easily The comeback kid's not bleeding yet"
After the pyre is started and burning, everyone will have better moods as the fire spreads and grows infinitely. Everyone else is fine and happy with being bound by society... But she isn't yet she can't escape from conformity.
Pulling the nerves out illustrates pain - The pain of trying to FIGHT conformity, trying to fight and go against the social regularities. It's so easy to be hurt by others when you don't conform... but the comeback kid isn't hurt at all.
" And now we sing in better moods Together whispering Well, everyone but you And later on we build the pyre And burn so easily Well, everyone but me Everyone but me"
Basically a repeat of the second verse while showing a lapse of time. Now they're all in better moods. Now everyone is "whispering" or mingling with the crowd as they conform to the ways of society. Except the comeback kid.
"And with words that defied all our social gestures No one could have known what the comeback kid did No words can describe all our social pressures That leads to the time when the comeback kid wins And wins And wins "
The comeback kid wins because he isn't a victim to conformity like the woman he is speaking of. He can operate within and outside social occasions because he doesn't HAVE to conform and he doesn't HAVE to be effected by the pressures and expectations of society.
She loses because she can't escape.
maybe he's upset with his girlfriend and she starts fighting with him and they break up but its really for the better so he winssssss
sspu invoke graphic images, kind of like nirvana. except instead of sex sspu do gore. i love sspu. so much. but i love that nerves thing. these guys are like a nineties rock band that isn't from the nineties!
I think this song is about school shootings, such as the one that took place at columbine. I might be wrong but for exemple the comeback kids, wins and wins and wins as he is shooting down peoples that yesterday were laughing at him / bullying him.
By lacking respect toward him, they were building the pyre for themselve, while burning him. Attacking straight at his feeling, but it's all right, as long as he's not bleeding. Digging out his nerves, or rather destroying his childhood and leaving it bruised.
This situation goes on and creates an environment of social pressure, that leads to those terrible tragedies.
It might not even be about school shootings, but just about shootings in general, or even suicide from social pressure. This song is, in my opinion, about the anger/sadness that arise from rejection not from just one person but from everyone all at once.
