i think it's fairly simple:

yeah, i just got dumped, and this song is like exactly it because he asked me out when i hinted i liked him and then he was like "uh...no i dont like you as more than a friend" and it's like well fine. I'm better than you anyway. AWESOME song.
I kinda think this has to do with someone secretly loving someone, but the "lovee" hates the "lover", thus breaking her heart. Then maybe the guy(lovee)has kinda a "I love you, then hate you" kinda thing goin on with the chick (lover)
