You Know What I Mean Lyrics

Shouldn't we two be together?
You know what I mean
To be with you is something like a dream
(You know what I mean)
And if you want me to
I'll bring sunshine to you only

You better stop, take a look about
You know what I mean
If only you could see the dreams
That seem to mean so much to me
Then you'd know the reason why
I would rather say "I do" than say "goodbye"
And let you go forever
Wouldn't we two be together...

Can't you see that I want you
For me forever?
Wouldn't we two be together

Do you know what I mean?
Can't you read in between the lines?
Sometimes I'm talking and it doesn't seem too clear
But if you have to know, I'm in love
If only you know what I mean...

Funny the guy above who loves the Turtles says this is one his least favorite of theirs, yet took the time to let us know. Be that as it may, I always thought this song was different but fell in love with it 20 years ago. I really, really, really love it, but I do not know how to describe why that is. It is so different than a conventional sixties pop song. Let's just say the melody is lovely, the singer Howard Kaylan has such an alluring voice on so many Turtles superstar songs, but the way this song is structured just makes me marvel. All I can say is I think it is so gorgeous and easily goes by unnoticed. ----- I actually think some of the Turtles songs are as beautiful as any by the great bands of thie sixties, absolutely! And that includes You Showed Me, Happy Together, She's My Girl, Somewhere Friday Night, Eleanor ---- and this one!

this is one of my least favorite of their songs. but i still love them.

@iamducky This is my favorite Turtles song. I love how it builds slowly as a guy inarticulately tries to tell his love to a girl who may be leaving ("you'd better stop...") and who fumbles over his words as he tries to tell her now much he loves her and wants to be with her, and builds to a crescendo. Beautiful song.
