I believe its about wanting something to happen and having alot of obstacles and under going alot of stress, for the sake of what you really want.

Because Butterfly Effect are the most awesome band in the southern hemisphere. Tool is No. 1 in my books and then these guys they are fucking awesome.

I totally agree with both "x_chronicxinability" and "yolanda", I believe this song is about waiting for something you want so bad. Whether it be for an event your waiting for to happen (like my 18th so I can go and see these guys live! lol) or for someone to realise or do something. It seems as though all he can do is wait because he has done all he can do and towards the end of the song he is pleading to someone else, I've gotten this from... "Hey wait this time it's not too late To stop this ship from sinking Don't go so much you didn't know It's never what you're thinking"

But from the lyrics I think what he was waiting for finally happened... "I've waited for something Waited for someone to arrive I've waited for something Waited for this day to arrive"

The song doesn't really describe exactly what that he wants, but I spose that is for us to intemperate ourselves.

i get an inkling that what the person in the song wants is a girl. this girl is might be going through some kind of trauma, & she is acting unlike her normal self because of it. she's in so much pain that she is hurting emotionally him too. but as much pain as she's put him through, he's willing to stick by her through this 'rough patch', because he cares about her that much. the stanza beginning 'your hands upon me..' may be the girl's sway/control over him, or her self-destructive thoughts. or maybe it's about their physical relationship: they've come close to having sex, but for some reason she stops herself..(maybe she was sexually abused?.. maybe looking too much into it.) in the last few stanzas, he might have said or done something in the heat of the moment that hurt her, & she's finally cracked, & he's trying to plead with her to stay. it seems this girl has little or no hope (for their relationship, or her exsistance), & he is the one always (trying to) picking her up again. what is he waiting for? possibly for the girl to return to her normal self...so the relationship can prosper. really love this song. TBE be rad.

I don't know if I'm way off track here but i think that it's about someone's struggle with life and feeling like taking their own life (references to the light, sinking ship) and someone arriving in their life finally and them finally realizing that they have something to live for. In a way it similar to what other comments have said but just my take on it.

On second thought maybe it's not ending life, ending relationship (like meg; said and sticking through it until it might come out right in the end.
