Opening the Hymnal/Babies Lyrics
Opening the Hymnal:
Welcome one and welcome all
To our small town
The lyrics are the bushes and the roses of the city
Inside each house you'll find the guilt
And fables and follies of the residents residing in
14 hymns for the heathen
1st hymn: the son of God complex
2nd hymn . . .
Babies:
Now baby, baby, baby, this world must seem so immense
Compared to the womb
And baby, baby, your head must seem so much smaller
Than you assumed
Your whole world seems to center around you
It'd be easy to make the mistake
That maybe you're why the world was made
Baby, baby, baby, you learn so fast
You seem to carry a special gift
Maybe you've been given to this world to make a difference
Such delusions we all struggle with
But the beautiful truth of it is
This is all we are, we simply exist
You're not the chosen one
I'm not the chosen one
But we don't need anyone
Let's not choose anyone

"Inside each House, you'll find the guilt, and fables, and folies of the residents residing in"
Seem so remiss compared to the womb
"This world must seem so immense compared to the womb.
Makes loads more sense.
well remiss makes sense, minced doesn't, but immense makes the most sense though, it compares to the head larger than you assume
"Inside this town, you’ll find the guilt That fills the quarry of the residents residing in"
This was a great way to start off the album. To lead the way for the story of the town " Happy Hollow"
the whole album is brilliant
"such Delusions we all struggle with."
Yup, definitely 'delusions.'
I love how he refers to this as the "son of god complex" in the last song. So clever.
I love how it's tied into the a few of the other songs, just like Red Handed Sleight of Hand for The Ugly Organ, and the repetition of "..the worst is over" in Stayling Alive and A Gentleman Caller. Kasher is fantastic. The meaning of the song so blunt, yet poignant. Beautiful.
first hymn the son of God complex
When he says "First hymn..." in this song, he calls it "a song (or maybe sort?) of introduction", referring to the Opening the Hymnal half of the song. The "son-of-God complex" lyric is only in Hymns for the Heathen.
