All Good Things Lyrics
Ahh-ahh-ahh
Honestly what will become of me,
I don't like reality,
It's way too clear to me,
But really life is daily,
We are what we don't see,
We missed everything daydreaming
Flames to dust,
Lovers to friends,
Why do all good things come to an end?
Come to an end.
Traveling I,
Only stop at exits
Wondering if I'll stay
Young and restless
Living this way is I stress this
I want to
Pull away when the dream dies
Pain sets in and I don't cry
I only feel gravity and I wonder why
Flames to dust,
Lovers to friends,
Why do all good things come to an end?
Come to an end.
Well the dogs were whistlin' a new tune
Barkin' at the new moon
Hoping it would come soon
So that they could die
Flames to dust,
Lovers to friends,
Why do all good things come to an end?
Come to an end.
Well the dogs were barking at the new moon
Whistlin’ a new tune
Hoping it will come soon
And the sun was wondering
If it should
Stay away for a day
'Til the feeling went away
And the sky was falling
And the clouds were dropping
And the rain forgot how to bring salvation
The dogs were barking at the moon and
Whistlin' a new tune
Hoping it will come soon
So that they could die
I don't like reality,
It's way too clear to me,
But really life is daily,
We are what we don't see,
We missed everything daydreaming
Lovers to friends,
Why do all good things come to an end?
Only stop at exits
Wondering if I'll stay
Young and restless
Living this way is I stress this

I think the song is an analysis of relationships in general. Whether it be friendships, or romantic relationships. I can personally relate to it as romantic relationships.
Honestly what will become of me don't like reality It's way too clear to me
(She's in a relationship and is happy but she's questioning what will become of her when it ends. She knows relationships don't last forever in reality and doesn't like that. It's way too clear to her because she's been there before).
But really life is daily We are what we don't see Missed everything daydreaming
(In reality life is lived on a daily basis, one day everything can be great and the next you can be heartbroken. In relationships we forget about reality because we're in love and daydreaming about the future. We're so caught up in the moment that we forget about the pain that comes in the end).
[Chorus:] Flames to dust Lovers to friends Why do all good things come to an end Flames to dust Lovers to friends Why do all good things come to an end come to an end come to an Why do all good things come to end? come to an end come to an Why do all good things come to an end?
(The chorus is very clear, in a relationships there's flames then dust. We're lovers then friends, why do all good things come to an end?)
Traveling I only stop at exits Wondering if I'll stay Young and restless Living this way I stress less
(I love this line, traveling I only stop at exits - She only stops in life for relationships that will soon end (exits). She keeps falling in love throughout her life wondering if she'll stay young and restless. She'd rather live this way because it's less stress to go through life falling in love than to be bitter and alone.
I want to pull away when the dream dies The pain sets in and I don't cry I only feel gravity and I wonder why
(When the dream dies and the relationship ends she wants to pull away - run away maybe?). The pain sets in but she can't cry because she been here too many times before. She only feels gravity and she wonders why. TO me the gravity reference is the feeling when you come down from the 'high' of love. Gravity pulls you back down to earth and reality and it hurts.

According to Lunar charts, the new moon is technically when there is no moon at all, after the occurrence of a waining moon. We all no that dogs like to bark at the moon. I personally see the dogs as her emotions and pain. They keep barking and she's waiting on a new moon (or no moon at all) so they'll stop barking so she can get some peace after the end of a relationship. I'm not sure about this but that's my take.

Well the dogs were barking at a new moon Whistling a new tune Hoping it would come soon And the sun was wondering if it should stay away for a day 'til the feeling went away
(She almost wants the sun to stay away so she can get on with getting closure on her relationship and then enjoy the sun - life - when she is really happy.
And the sky was falling and the clouds were dropping and the rain forgot how to bring salvation
I view this line as her tears. The rain forgot how to bring salvation. Her tears have dried up, she forgot how to cry which would give her some release - salvation).
the dogs were barking at the new moon Whistling a new tune Hoping it would come soon so that they could die.
That's just my analysis, I love the song and can certainly relate.
I've been wondering so long about the barking dogs. Your interpretation makes sense.. :) When you're upset, you definitely feel like something's clawing inside/ you want to shout to get the pain out. It's a good metaphor to use. It was just, in a literal sense, shocking..

I think at the beginning of the song it goes "Honestly what will become of me, I don't like reality, It's way too clear to me, But really life is daily, We are what we don't see, We missed everything daydreaming" other than that you did pretty well. I absolutely love this song. It is soo beautiful!
I know a few people have commented that the "But really, life is daily" line is obscure; I think it's kind of like the quote, "Life is what happens when we're making other plans"; she's saying she doesn't like reality, but it's happening every day, life is happening every day, and she's been living unconsciously, only stopping to reflect at the "exits", the big moments, like on autopilot. I don't really understand all of the dog/moon imagery, we can only look at the facts and interpret from there...dogs howl at FULL moons, they don't bark at NEW moons, do they? I guess something about transformation, cycles, seasons, something like that...any more ideas?
@girlofspirit I think the dogs barking at the new moon is referencing a Tarot card XVIII The Moon (It has a wild dog and coyote/wolf barking at a new moon), it represents the consciousness becoming aware, uncertain paths, change etc

This is such an amazing song... It's my new favourite... Chris Martins voice in this song is absolutely heavenly...
I didnt think it was daily... It sounds like "Really life is dandy" I checked Nellys site and it says Daily in the lyrics but, to me, it doesnt sound like that
wonderful song. i'm just pissed they took out the version with chris martin from the album. he completes it.
awesomw song, just the whole vibe, you can just feel it
This song has so much emotion. I love it. I hope I don't get sick off it because it is overplayed currently. Thank God Chris Martin doesn't sing in it, i don't like him too much. But I haven't yet heard the version with him...
well, if Chris Martin does that backing vocals "aaahaaah" stuff, than I must take back my flames. they sound nice.
i love this song. i heard it an was floored. i put all my friends onto it. i've loved nelly since she came out. my friends get pretty sick of me when she releases a new tune. but i dont care. i love her!
