Emma, Get Me a Lemon Lyrics
Emma, get me a lemon
and if there are none, get me a lime
And if we got none, go out and get some
Im gonna wait here, by your French door.
When you asked me to come over
it was all coming together.
Theres so many ways
We can take our time.
And you tell me not to worry,
Dont you ever think about it.
I got so many ways to waste our time.
Lauren, go let the dog in.
I hear him scratching at your kitchen wall.
Go let the dog in, I hear him howling.
I got a feeling hell be all night.
When you asked me to come over
It was all coming together.
Theres so many ways
We can waste our time.
And you tell me not to worry,
Dont you ever think about it.
Its a long way home, lets enjoy the ride.
and if there are none, get me a lime
And if we got none, go out and get some
Im gonna wait here, by your French door.
it was all coming together.
Theres so many ways
We can take our time.
And you tell me not to worry,
Dont you ever think about it.
I got so many ways to waste our time.
I hear him scratching at your kitchen wall.
Go let the dog in, I hear him howling.
I got a feeling hell be all night.
It was all coming together.
Theres so many ways
We can waste our time.
And you tell me not to worry,
Dont you ever think about it.
Its a long way home, lets enjoy the ride.

Come on, let's think about it: lemon and limes are both citrus fruits, which combine the symbolic connotations of fruit with pleasure and temptation with an acidic and bitter quality. French doors resemble a vagina, and are a known slang term for a vagina. Dogs, howling: more sexual imagery. Both verses involve telling a woman to go do something, basically go get lost for a while. The chorus has the narrator saying, "There are so many ways. We can take our time," while we assume the women answer, "I've got so many ways to waste our time," or the less fantastic line, "...ways to enjoy the ride." Basically, the narrator's a reluctant lover, and the women are seducing him. Either that, or the narrator's waiting to get laid, but getting everything else from women intent on wasting his time. I like this song, but man, thinking about the lyrics nearly ruined it for me.
i bet you he was tripping when he made this song.
maybe, or he was just drunk. Either way, i think you and I are stumped on this one
I think it's too easy to dismiss music as sexual or drug-induced. There seems to me to be a deeper meaning to this song than just someone being reluctant to go screw some women.
In a nutshell, this song is about the banality that relationships can devolve into. The first verse details the singer asking a woman to get him a lemon or a lime, common peripheries for mixed drinks. He says he's going to "wait here," which means to me that he's not really engaged or interested, he's just waiting on a nice drink. The second verse has to do with keeping a dog from barking. Again, the singer wants something taken care of but is too disinterested to go do it himself.
The line in the chorus "There's so many ways we can waste our time" just drives this point home. The singer feels that in the relationship he's just wasting his time, that all the fire is gone. The song details an old and passionless relationship.
