Out Through The Curtain Lyrics
Like the light was all I had
I struck the book with my last match
The candle burned so soft and slow
I felt the warmth and felt its glow
Salt tasting tears
They roll off of my lips
One for each day I'm inside this house
It's a trap
One I can't quite escape so pretend it's the place that I love
Won't let it pass me by again
Won't let it pass me by again
The grass was clipped
The summer sun
Was beating down on my front yard
All the boys and girls would laugh
I'd watch them through the curtain's crack
Place all your bets and watch me lose
The life that I got but never used
Dream every night that one will come true
But only bad ones ever do
Won't let it pass me by again
Won't let it pass me by again
My heart beats way too fast
To let regret sit in my lap
Won't let it pass me by again
Won't let it pass me by again (Won't let this pass me by)
Won't let it pass me by again (Won't let this pass me by)
Won't let it pass me by again
I struck the book with my last match
The candle burned so soft and slow
I felt the warmth and felt its glow
Salt tasting tears
They roll off of my lips
One for each day I'm inside this house
It's a trap
One I can't quite escape so pretend it's the place that I love
Won't let it pass me by again
The summer sun
Was beating down on my front yard
All the boys and girls would laugh
I'd watch them through the curtain's crack
Place all your bets and watch me lose
The life that I got but never used
Dream every night that one will come true
But only bad ones ever do
Won't let it pass me by again
To let regret sit in my lap
Won't let it pass me by again (Won't let this pass me by)
Won't let it pass me by again (Won't let this pass me by)
Won't let it pass me by again

My favorite song off the new record, by far.
regret... thats what the song is about, kinda a sad sad song... i like it though
this is a song about regret yet its remembering the memories. I find that alot of the hush sounds songs can be interpretted into regret.
I love this song. It's one of my favorites on the record along with Magnolia and Wine Red. I can definitely see it has something to do with regret and/or bad memories. He talks about how he pretended he was where he wanted to be and just didn't do anything about it. And then the chorus is "Won't let it pass me by again." He won't let his life pass by him again. This song is amazing. "Dream every night that one would come true But only bad ones ever do Won't let it pass me by again Won't let it pass me by again"
I agree, this song is about regret. More specifically, I think it's about not taking advantage of the opportunities that come, and later feeling awful about it.
"Salt tasting tears They roll off of my lips One for each day I'm inside this house It's a trap One I can't quite escape so pretend it's the place that I love"
I love that line; I can relate to it so well. To me, it means he is unhappy about certain circumstances in his life, but he's too scared or lazy or sad to do anything about it. So he pretends that where he is is where he wants to be.
Well this is what it means to me, though its probably not what it was actually written about:
Its about someone who can't leave their house/be active safely for some reason. Perhaps the person is old with heart complications, or perhaps they have some kind of disease.
"One that I can't quite escape so pretend its the place that I love"
refers to what he tells himself to try and feel beter, and/or how he acts to those that know him.
Then its about how he/she watches the outside world, and dreams/wishes of being out there.
"My heart beats way to fast to let regret sit in my lap"
Finally, the person decides to go out there, despite the great risk he knows it is. He's too happy to be out of the trap he was in to regret the fact he's probably going to die.
And that's what the chorus refers to: the person's not going to let life keep passing them by, even if it means dying.
According to Bob (who wrote the song), it was about a time in his life when he was scared to leave the house for a long time because of "this bigger kid beating the crap out of me."
First time I heard this song, loved it, actually thought it was about Boo in To Kill A Mockingbird. I totally get now how it's about bullying, but when I first heard it a lot of the phrases seemed to fit, ya knoww.
I definitely agree that this song is about bullying, and how he couldn't leave the house because of it.
Beautiful song.
i am absolutely addicted to this song...
