Dear Valentine Lyrics

As I fall asleep, to black and white TV
Fly far away, in my recurring dream
Each winter drains electricity
And there are words to say
And there are songs to sing
But I can hardly speak at all

Oh, I'm on my way to a holiday in real time
Float a mile away, say we'll be OK
Dear Valentine

Now quietly we peek across the street
Perfectly cut, perfectly mean
But it's not complete, no not at all
Oh, I'm on my way to a holiday in real time
Float a mile away, say we'll be OK
Dear Valentine

i think this is about a "valentine," a love. and a dreamlike state their relationship is.

probably wrong, but no one else commented this yet.

I think the singer is bored of his life not going well, so he's just leaving "to a holiday." No plan, he's just going.

This song reminds me of "Come Downstairs and Say Hello" in it's message, but not in much else.

My favorite song on the album! I wish Adam sang more than just this song. His vocals match brilliantly with the guitar. Amazing, beautiful song.

you're totally rite. Adam needed to sing a lot more on this album. it would make the cd even more amazing than it already is

The correct lyrics are...

As I fall asleep, to black and white TV Fly far away, in my recurring dream Each winter drains electricity And there are words to say And there are songs to sing But I can hardly speak at all

Oh, I'm on my way to a holiday in real time Float a mile away, say we'll be OK Dear Valentine

Now quietly we peek across the street Perfectly cut, perfectly mean But it's not complete, no not at all Oh, I'm on my way to a holiday in real time Float a mile away, say we'll be OK Dear Valentine

Actually, in the last stanza, it's "perfectly kept, perfectly neat". That's what it sounds like to me anyway.

Going off what ellie117 said, I think this song is mainly about love. He's got it so bad for this girl-- he thinks it's a dream, he can't speak, and feels like he's "floating a mile away" from reality. Everything else seems like black and white TV. The feeling is so wonderful that real time is a holiday to him. It's like that quote: "You know you're in love when you can't sleep, because reality is finally better than your dreams." He's also a little worried and confused. Thus, the "Say we'll be OK" part.

I'm not totally sure what the last verse could mean.

I agree with mfactor, as well. Adam's voice makes me melt, I tell you! I wish he sang more. I love Ryan and all, but Adam has always been my favorite.

Well in the beginning I think he's sort of describing an actual dream. First, I noticed he's falling asleep to black and white tv (many people say they don't dream in color). He's flying in the dream, and can feel time slipping by, year after year.
The way the song is written makes me think this is a story he's telling somebody, perhaps in a note, letter, or even a song ( ;) ). Next, he's looking at someone else's life, perhaps pondering his own, and can clearly see what is missing; maybe it's his dear valentine?

Song Meaning

Actually, I see this as a break up song. Perhaps it doesn't help that I'm in the middle of one at the moment, but idea that things aren't going great- (the whole first verse speaks to how he's lonely, not happy- he has songs to sing, but he can hardly speak). And then the chorus goes on to how he (and I) feels separated from reality. Its a relief, but its a painful relief.

No way. It's about looking forward to the future. He even says "we'll be ok." I may suck at interpreting lyrics, but I just may have found someone who's worse at it :)

I believe the song is simply about how he misses his family while on tour, and longs to have "a holiday in real time"... when he gets to see them again. But for now, it's just a dream to him. When he see's other happy families and homes... (peek across the street)... it makes him miss his own even more.

@rockula plus sometimes lyrics don't really mean anything. They just sound good with each other.
