Clearly, someone has lost his religion, and more demonstratively than Michael Stipe ever did. This song is good example of the entire "Exile" album, although "Dead Heaven is a very close second for being best song on the album.

If my memory serves me (and it often does not) Gary Numan declared himself an atheist shortly before this albums' release.

This song is incredible. It's probably my favourite from the Exile album. The beat is slick, the guitar is dramatic, and that last verse is one of the angriest things I've ever heard.

First of all, a true atheist would never speak so deep about religion why to speak about something that does not exist? Numan is a great artist and seeing the disgraces of world, he expresses his feelings trying to explain himself why God let this happen and this is the motive of many of his songs, he has deep knowledge of Christian religion, he say he does not believe but there is something inside of him, a spiritual fact and his lyrics are linked to that
