Stormtrooper In Drag Lyrics

So here am I quite by chance near the phone
I could call and make you crawl into bed
Questions always questions
I'll just speak in slow motion,
About obsessions with boys on the floor.

Take that smile off your face,
Wipe that tear from your eye,
Don't say you're sorry for me.

Now look at me like a stormtrooper in drag
And I'll let you feel exactly like I do,
It's so disgusting I'm so tired of rhythm
And needles in arms,
I don't want your point of view.

Nothing to do,
Nothing to steal,
And there's nothing to say.

Love it love it I need to.

Cover art for Stormtrooper In Drag lyrics by Gary Numan

No other number, by Numan or anyone, sounds anything like Stormtrooper in Drag.

It has a really peculiar beauty all of its own, and a beautiful, retreating expression. It takes a retrospective feel but seems lonely and melancholy in tone, moreso in word.

The lyrics are arguably impossible to hear in full. You would never learn them properly unless you see them written, as they are here.

For instance, i always believed line 5 was 'sessions with boys of lore' and only stood corrected lastnight. Always believed this number was to do with an attraction to boys, after seeing the true lyrics, maybe it is about drug addiction.

Well, it was released (and co-written) by Paul Gardiner, his bass player in Tubeway Army, who had, and died, from a heroin addiction. That could be the gist of the song, expecially the line "needles in arms"
