Matches Lyrics

Ashes to ashes, dust on the dash
I got my cigarettes
But I can't find the fire, it's calming me down

I was just out on a night with my friends
You are still out on a night with your friends
And you don't seem to tire when I'm not around

I'm under the tunnel now, holding my breath

I searched every pocket that hung in the closet
Until I found some matches and a brown leather jacket
One I swore I'd never worn, but it once kept you warm

Do you remember we made love on the floor?

And you still haven't called
So I wait until they're closing the bars

I made a wish but the match never lit

find the fire's is right...as is "to tire"

then it's "But under the tunnel, I'm holding my breath"

then it's "I searched every parka that hung in the closet"

I don't get that second to last line...it almost sounds like "crawls in the bar"...but I don't know

this is my favorite song by the format. the line "do you remember we made love on the floor?" is done so beautifully. this whole song is done very beautifully.

These lyrics are seriously wrong. Here's my stab at them:

Ashes to ashes, dust on the dash I got my cigarettes But I can't find the fire, it's calming me down I was just out on a night with my friends You are still out on a night with your friends And you don't seem to tire when I'm not around I'm under the tunnel now, holding my breath I searched every pocket that hung in the closet Until I found some matches and a brown leather jacket, One i swore I'd never worn, but it once kept you warm. Do you remember we made love on the floor? And you still haven't called So I wait until they're closing the bars I made a wish but the match never lit

um, first of all, they're not wrong. these lyrics are from the acoustic demo, not the finished one. and second of all, (like i said before), it was BY EAR a very long time before the CD was even out, when it was just the lo-fi demo, thank you very much. if you were the one who put the lyrics up that long ago and you got a few minuscule parts of it off a bit, i wouldn't be rude to you about it. but obviously you are too immature to be respectful of other people.

ok, so, he found a coat that wasnt his. his significant other was cheating on...thats what i be seein byetch

Cover art for Matches lyrics by Format, The

ummm what? its a coat he didn't remember wearing until he found the matches in it, then the memories spent in it came back. she left him, but didn't cheat on him.

Relapser is close, all except these correct lines (taken out of the album liner notes):

"...can't find the fire that's calming me down" "i'm under the tunnel i'm holding my breath" "'til i found some matches in a brown leather jacket"

are people just typing up the first thing the think it might say? there are too many errors in too many of these lyrics...not just this song - lots.
