Angels on the Moon (Album version) Lyrics

Do you dream
That the world will know your name
So tell me your name
And do you care
About all the little things
Or anything at all
I want to feel
All the chemicals inside
I want to feel
I want a sunburn
Just to know that I'm alive
To know I'm alive

Chorus
And don't tell me if I'm dying
'Cause I don't want to know
If I can't see the sun
Maybe I should go
Don't wake me 'cause I'm dreaming
Of angels on the moon
Where everyone you know
Never leaves too soon

And do you believe
In the day that you were born
Tell me do you believe
And do you know
That every day's the first
Of the rest of your life

Chrous

This is to one last day in the shadows
And to know a brother's love
This is to New York City angels
And the rivers of our blood
This is to all of us
To all of us

So don't tell me if I'm dying
'Cause I don't want to know
If I can't see the sun
Maybe I should go
Don't wake me 'cause I'm dreaming
Of angels on the moon
Where everyone you know
Never leaves too soon

Yeah you can tell me all the thoughts
About the stars that fill polluted skies
And show me where you run to
When no one's left to take your side
But don't tell me where the road is
'Cause I just don't want to know
And no I don't want to know, love

And don't tell me if I'm dying
And don't tell me if I'm dying
And don't tell me if I'm dying

Taking a slightly different approach to this, it almost sounds to me like he's found someone who is so amazing that he's noticing things in mundane life that he hasn't seen before and that person is teaching him to appreciate life, the good and the bad.

"I want to feel All the chemicals inside I want to feel I want a sunburn Just to know that I'm alive"

Sounds to me like a reference to the treatments of cancer. Chemicals= Chemo-Therepy, Sunburn= Radiation. I could be way off. But it sounds like it is a song that talks about being given an amount of time to live. The lyrics repeatedly say "Don't tell me if I'm dying," a person would rather live for life instead of trying to overcome death.

I do agree with everyone else though, that its definately a wake up call to enjoy life, but I also believe it is about a terminal illness, such as cancer.

i agree. i think that song is about someone who lost someone to cancer. i think the experience opened their eyes in more ways than one. i think that person is still bitter to a certain degree because he is dreaming of his "angel" and a place where no one leaves too soon.

this is to one last day in the shadows and to a brother's love, this is for new york city angels and rivers of our blood. pretty strong stuff right there and definitely references 9/11. i think the song was written as a song about grabbing life by the throat and not letting anything get in the way of being alive. but 9/11 references are scattered all over it so it definitely works both ways.

i think that this song is amazazazazazing.

to me it seems the narrator has a terminal illness, possibly cancer, (refering to music.is.life_jeni's post that chemicals=chemo therapy, sunburn=radiation, etc.) and 'dont tell me if im dying' or 'dont tell me where the road ends' because instead of feeling bad that u only have so long to live, u should use the time u have left to live life to its fullest.

as for: This is to one last day in the shadows And to know a brother's love This is to New York City angels And the rivers of our blood This is to all of us To all of us -i believe this is saying to the 'NYC angels' and others who have lost their lives for whatever reason, that this is that you should never forget the ones who have died before you.

just my thinkin...

This song RULES!!!! I think its about realizing that you are still alive, and to enjoy life while u have it, regardless of anything bad that may happen to you.

I just heard this song for the first time yesterday and fell in love with it. As cliché as it may sound, I hear it as embracing every aspect of life while you have it. Don't take the small moments for granted and live in the moment. Realize the amazing and crazy stuff going on around you and just make the best of it ... learn to fly it.
